Leo Kottke has been my inspiration since I heard his “Armadillo” album in 1971. I first saw him live in 1972, when he was in top form, though still advancing as a composer. I used to give occasional solo concerts in Europe, but never intended to make it a career, because there already WAS a Leo Kottke, whose level I knew I would never reach.

some years ago, on PBS, I think.

The person introducing him asked "How many people here picked up a guitar because they heard Leo Kottke play one?" Someone in the audience said "I put one down because I heard him." It got a big laugh.

He always was the master of the 12-string.
