Dog Flatulence!

I'm drinking my morning coffee and the dog is killing me right now. Windows are open and my eyes are bleeding. Must of gotten into something ripe in the yard this morning. I didn't know dogs could fart so much in their sleep.

Parasites are everywhere & dogs pick them up just walking in grass.

This is flea and tick season.

Bunny poop? Random dead mouse? Something's fermenting in that dog.

I live just off a state highway. Went outside for a smoke & dog was flat out running away from highway. So I called him. He's still here...

Anyway, even though the Dober kids I've lived with over the years regularly had flatulence that would nearly peel paint, this was different. Even more smelly!

Vet said he was loaded with worms attached to intestines & we were smelling the blood. Eeeeewwwwww...

It didn't take long for it to clear up - a day or two...

Of course, living in a redneck state (TN) where many people just do not adequately care for their animals, he is heartworm +.

Most monthly heartworm meds have dewormers in them for common parasites, so your pupper might have picked up something else.

Is he on heartworm preventative?

I would get him vet checked tbh.

I had 2 dogs & a human infected with lyme, ehrlychiosis & babesiosis. Never saw a tick. Dr. Kakoma, U of I vet pathologist & specialist in dxing "tick" diseases told me, "People call these tick diseases. They are not. Any insect that is infected & bites for blood will transmit them. And, if one dog is infected & shares toys & food/water bowls with other dogs, they will all be infected."

Yup, they were both +.

But "tick" (flea, fly, mosquitos, etc.) diseases are very complex & difficult to diagnose.

My experience was 20+ yrs ago & vets were so in denial I had to argue to get them to do a very specialized blood test. Positive for lyme & the other 2 diseases.

1 shot of Immizol fixed the problem, but it was tough to get them tested with the special handling & processing required.

Please don't stop till you find an answer.

Think of subtle changes you might not have noticed. Drinking & urinating more? Appetite off? Etc. Then research online!

Best of luck! Pls let us know what vet says? As with all things, new diseases are becoming promindnt due to climate change. At the time these 3 were consistently being identified by Loyol University's team. They would go out & "drag for ticks," then test them.

I have one doggo, my Catahoula (15 yo), who has terrible farts, and my younger doggo, a border/Sheltie mix, who seems to never fart. The doctor can't find anything wrong with my Catahoula, although she's been treated for Addison's since she was three and is followed closely. Her farts are so horrible they wake me up; they are both noxious and loud! They eat the same food. I'm wondering if it's the prednisone I have to give her.

We had a Dachshund that hated — absolutely hated — the car. One time on a short trip (we were trying to get her used to riding) she started dropping ‘em left and right. In the car. Honest to God, I was Speed Racer in a residential zone trying to get home before things hit critical mass. I’m convinced that if I had been pulled over, the cop would have let me off.

My daughter and I still laugh about it. (BTW, it was a trip to Taco Bell.)
