Curbside pharmacy pick up.
3 designated reserved parking spots with clear signage.
I get there and not only is one of the spots taken with an empty car not waiting for curbside pharmacy delivery, but it's taking up about one quarter of the spot I parked in. In other words, they split the line. So I parked as close as I could get to that empty car, but I was still over the line for the third spot.
Some guy then squeezes into the third spot and shuts off his car. I got his attention because I wanted to apologize to him for taking up part of his spot. I thought he was there for a prescription pick-up as well. So through a closed window, I was trying to indicate I was sorry, and that I had to park that way because the car next to me split the line. At the same time, I was on the phone with the pharmacy guy, giving him my prescription info for him to come out and bring it to my car.
The guy I was trying to apologize to just kind of shrugged his shoulders, indicating that he didn't know what I was trying to say through our closed windows.
I know all of the pharmacy staff very well. I'm talking to Dave, the pharmacy guy, about my prescriptions, when this guy who pulled into the reserved spot barely squeezes out of his car, by crawling over to the passenger side and getting out (there looked like there was just enough room for him to get out on the other side, there was a cart corral there). I do not know why he parked there. There were empty spaces close to where we were. I think he just pulled into the spot because it was the closest to the store.
I lost my shit because the guy was using the curbside spot and was just going inside to shop. I lost my temper, reverted to my 13 year old inner self, for the first time in a long time. I was tightly sandwiched in between these two cars who didn't belong there in the first place.
I said: Dave, can you hold on, I gotta say something to this motherfucker.
He said: Let me guess. You're parked in by two people who don't know how to read, or park.
I said yep.
Dave goes: DO IT! DO IT! YOU WOULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT A HUGE PROBLEM THIS IS FOR US. WE HAVE CHEMO PATIENTS THAT COME HERE FOR CURBSIDE AND THEY HAVE TO DRIVE AROUND THE PARKING LOT FOR 10 MINUTES UNTIL THESE ASSHOLES ARE DONE BUYING THEIR SNICKERS BARS!!! THEY ALWAYS TAKE UP TWO SPACES TOO!!!!!!
As I was *trying* to get out of my car, I noticed that the guy who was going into the store had his adorable young son with him. Really cute kid.
I got back on the phone and told Dave; I can't do it. I'm not going to tell some guy he's a jerk in front of his kid.
Dave came out with my bag of medicine, and when he was walking toward me, he started cracking up when he saw how the three cars were parked. I started cracking up laughing when I saw how hard he was laughing. He had to kind of lay on the side of my hood and stretch his arm out, and then I had to stretch my arm out while trying to lean out the window in order to grab the bag.
I said to him "Listen, here's the thing. There's millions of people in Ukraine that are actually getting forced out of their homes and being forced to find their way TO ANOTHER COUNTRY and here in the US we can't even read a sign, realize why the sign is there, and have respect for the people who need to use these parking spots. There's millions of people in Ukraine that are actually getting forced out of their homes, and here, somebody is suing Burger King because their Whoppers are smaller than advertised".
He told me that this happens at least once a day, and they get elderly people calling and crying because they are sick, or getting chemo, and they've been waiting for a spot to open up.
I had my wife's vehicle, which is large, so I didn't even want to attempt backing out of the spot because traffic was increasing in the lane behind me, and I was parked in so tightly that it would taken me several moves to get out of the space.
I talked myself down and told myself fuck it, I guess people are going to do what they are going to do, and I waited until the guy who had split the parking line came back to his car. As he approached the front of his car, he nodded at me, I nodded at him, he backed out easily because there was no one parked on his driver's side, and I went home.
Don't worry, I'll make it a point to post about my curbside disasters every time they happen, just to make sure you are kept in the loop.

(5,006 posts)I'll be if that was added to the signage suddenly people would "learn" to read.

(22,648 posts)That's an excellent idea. I didn't even think of that, even as I was staring at the sign trying to figure out what was so hard to understand about it.
I'm going to suggest that to them next time. I don't know if they will do it, but I'll suggest it.
Thanks!
