Family was out of town

From what I've read it was originally mainly about Tony (the Italian caddy) schmoozing Judge Smails for the scholarship. Rodney was supposed to have just a few scenes but once on site they just kept writing him in more. The completely changed the movie while filming it - usually a really bad sign. Filmed in Florida. They were so badgered (sorry) by the country club leaders that the last day of shooting they lured them away with a fake meeting and the assistant directors did the explosion shots. They blew the hell out of the place filming from different angles to look lie three times the number of explosions. Murray was only in th shoot for 8 days. The scene with he and Chevy was hastily written by them and Ramos when they realized the two SNL stars of the movie hadn't been on screen together.

Must have been a blast (sorry).

Murray and Ramos didn't speak to each other for several years after making Groundhog Day.

(From Wikipedia)
"Shortly before Ramis' death Murray visited him, and the two spoke for the first time in 21 years.
Murray gave tribute to Ramis at the 86th Academy Awards."
