(8,513 posts)I think in the long run, she'll be fine. Sure, she'll be hated by the MAGAt hate group, but she did the right thing.

(113,130 posts)Butterfield got his life back when the stink of Nixon started to fade. Likely she will, also. I'm sure there are a lot of corporations that are ready to overpay her for a PR type job.
She's young, she'll outlive TFG.

(8,513 posts)Anyone who is still a MAGAt is disgusting and/or evil, but not all Republicans fall into that category.

(6,866 posts)If they are still practicing Republicans, they are MAGATs. Otherwise they would have left like Liiz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. They may not have publicly become Independents, and will never become Democrats, but they're sure not Republicans anymore.

(64,930 posts)At least I hope so. Not religious, but I hope she gets some sort of "redemption."
Random Boomer
(4,244 posts)That makes her a top-level MAGAT.
The best that can be said is that when Trump fomented an open rebellion against the United States congress, she FINALLY decided this was a bridge too far for her. But she crossed a helluva lot of other bridges without a second thought, so no, she doesn't get a free pass for "policy differences."

(8,513 posts)I don't think we should exclude everyone because of an earlier way of thinking. My own thinking on a lot of things has evolved over my 69 years on this planet. I'm not at all giving her a free pass, but she has evolved to a point, and there's a possibility that she may evolve further.
The MAGAt group is a cult, but people do sometimes find strength to leave cults. I don't believe that shunning forever is the right thing to do.
No free pass, but I will continue to have an open mind.

(8,513 posts)She has taken a step. I hope she takes more steps away from Republicans. Growth can take time.
I guess I'm just ever the optimist.

I absolutely don't understand how she/ANYONE can still be a Republican in today's climate! I know that Steve Schmidt has offically left the party and is now a registered Democrat.

(2,399 posts)Anyone that would remain Republican after all of that, has to have some judgement issues or priorities that bring up more judgement issues.
I am not saying they have to love all Democrats. I am not saying they have to love all the ideas Democrats embrace. But if they can see themselves promoting or voting Republican in the current day or near future, they are clearly broken. If they are not ready to promote Democrats over Republican in this current time, after all they have seen, they are, quite sadly, judgement or ethic impaired.
She has suffered from these people when she has done the right thing. You would think that would open her eyes. I am not saying hate all men because one was a pig. She should at this time be quite clear that the republican culture is one that rewards men that are pigs. Guliani is just one of the pigs. TFG, Rodger Stone and Jim Jordan are prime examples. A culture that continues to support these people because they are on the same team can't be anything but a culture of pigs supporting pigs.
A culture that despises the rights of women, hates those who do not hate and cares nothing for truth, is not a culture that should be in control of anything.

(342 posts)After the past 40+ years of clear and obvious evidence, anyone who still calls him or herself a Republican must be rejected out of hand. Say, "I'm not affiliated with any political party," or "I'm an independent," or "I'm looking to find my place," or something. But to say, "I still identify as a Republican," only means you accept criminality, lies, and pure evil as means to an end.

(2,252 posts)You said, "... the republican culture is one that rewards men that are pigs." I agree completely, but I'd like to point out, it rewards women who are pigs, too. Ginny Thomas, Lauren Boebert, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Marsha Blackburn, that governor of South Dakota whose name I can't remember at the moment, Kari Lake ... I could go on and on and on. There are plenty of batshit crazy women in the Republican party, too.

(7,491 posts)I'm sure she could do communications office on a congressional staff either in DC or a state office in order to finish up her federal pension.
Or corporate or for a federal department.
The main thing she has going for her is that she obviously conscientious about her work wherever she would be,
even if she identified as Republican.

(2,252 posts)If I could ask her a question, I'd ask her ... Which Republican candidate would you support in the November 2024 election? She says she absolutely will not support that orange thing, but the problem is, they're ALL batshit crazy. She's a shining beacon of sanity compared to any of them, so how can she support any of them?
