President Donald Trump will retain the controversial $70 million jet plane leased by former Homeland Security Kristi Noem before her ouster last month, allowing it to be used by select Cabinet secretaries and the first lady, administration officials said this week.

A department spokesperson and other officials, speaking exclusively to the Wall Street Journal, said Melania Trump's office will have access to the plane, which is nicer than most other government jets. Noem had been leasing the jet and had planned to purchase it, the Journal reported.


DHS officials said they expected that purchase would be canceled upon Noem's exit, but the Trump administration has reportedly decided to move forward with it, granting premium access to his wife and select members of his administration.

"ICE purchased this plane before Secretary [of Homeland Security Markwayne Mullin] was confirmed," an Immigration and Customs Enforcement official told the Journal. "This aircraft will be available to Cabinet members who need secure command and control and rapid long-range mobility.”

According to the Journal, the plane holds a queen bed, showers, a kitchen, a bar and four televisions.
