Analysis Was Trump oblivious to the realities of Netanyahu's promised 'easy' war on Iran?

Senior US officials consider the PMs pitch to have been overblown, creating potentially far-reaching consequences for Israel
When Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at Donald Trumps Mar-a-Lago club on 29 December last year, the Israeli prime minister came with an appeal and a not so subtle inducement.
After months of restocking air defence and other missiles after Junes 12-day conflict in which the US joined in to bomb Tehrans nuclear facilities, Israel was ready to go again, this time with more substantial objectives.
In the press conference hosted by the two leaders, Trump appeared to dutifully echo familiar talking points of Netanyahus. Now I hear that Iran is trying to build up again, Trump said. Then we are going to have to knock them down. Well knock the hell out of them. But hopefully, thats not happening.
The Israeli leader, like others before him, had come armed with an appeal to Trumps ego: the award of his countrys top honour, the Israel Prize, rarely given to non-Israelis, for his tremendous contributions to Israel and the Jewish people.

I feel sorry for many of the Isrealis; many of them feel bibi has gone way too far in response to Oct 7.

However the large majority of Israelis - with the exception of Palestinian Citizens of Israel of course - were perfectly fine with what was done to Gaza and cheered it on. As they are now cheering on Lebanon and Iran.
Opponents of these genocidal war are few and far between in Israel and they have all my support and sympathy. They are brave beyond measure, enduring arrests, beatings, job losses and ostracism from their fellow Jews.
I would hope that by now people are "getting" what kind of society Israel has become and why the Palestinians and now others have suffered so much. We must stop funding and supporting it, in order to have any chance at peace.
