Trump says he won't sign bills until Congress overhauls voting

(NPR) President Trump threatened to withhold his signature on all bills until Congress passes stricter federal voting requirements — a move that escalates his efforts to change election rules ahead of the 2026 midterms.

In a social media post Sunday, Trump said he won't sign any bills into law until Congress passes the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act.

"I, as President, will not sign other Bills until this is passed," Trump wrote.

If passed and made law, the measure would transform voter registration and voting in the U.S. It would require eligible voters to prove their citizenship with documents like a valid U.S. passport or a birth certificate and a valid photo I.D. It's already illegal for non-U.S. citizens to vote in federal elections.

'report' this as the Convicted Felon's threatening a government shut down during a war he started? I guarantee that if the fascist running Congress were to pass another billionaire tax cut he'd sign it and the MSCM would praise him as a visionary. If, somehow, the SAVE Act is passed, I trust, or, rather, hope the Democratic leaders have the law suit and TRO motion papers ready to file immediately upon the signing. And, I mean having a person standing at the courthouse clerk's desk ready to submit them as soon as word comes down that it's signed. Use the conservatives tactics against them; delay, delay, delay, deny, delay. Schumer and Jefferies should be doing news conferences every day on the Capitol steps talking about Epstein, the Republicans attempts to keep married women from voting, starting a war and so much more. And did I mention Epstein?

A bill passed by both branches becomes law in 10 days if the President fails to sign.

Trump would need to veto every bill, which still can be overridden.

I doubt if too many bills are going to pass that don't favor Republicans, since they have a majority.

During the Bush administration they spent millions of dollars investigating voter fraud. They found about 30 actual examples. A couple were people filling out the mail in ballot of a deceased parent and the rest were convicted felons who didn't know that they'd lost their right to vote due to laws in their home state.

Given that the GOP controls both houses this is a major win for Democrats. I wasn't anticipating any good legislation.

But I bet the Congress people and Senators know this. Dems better not cave on this.

Trump wants more funding for his stuff, so no legislation passed no money. He's really put himself in a corner with this nonsense.

Hope he's holding his breath. That would be nice.

A bill passed by Congress DOES become law even without the Presidential signature IF TEN DAYS (not counting Sundays) and IF-AND-ONLY-IF Congress remains in session.

My recall from High School is that if Congress adjourns during this time period, then the bill FAILS to become law and is called a "Pocket Veto" — a coward's way to avoid taking a stand.

Of course, having Congress adjourn would require the unthinkable collusion of Congressional Leaders.

how does he explain his being in office? It sounds like he's saying that a rigged election put him in power.
