Conservative Evangelicals becoming enraged over increasing Christian support for Harris and Walz

https://signalpress.blogspot.com/2024/08/christian-support-for-harris-is.html

From an Evangelical perspective, the words of Jesus are not only authoritative because they were inspired and included in the New Testament, but because they come from a divine source, God himself, who was revealed in the flesh by Jesus. It does not take much reading, if we begin at Matthew 5, and run through a couple of chapters of the text, which is known as Jesus' Sermon on the Mount, to get this comparison.

Talarico sees Christian nationalism as a form of tyranny, and dangerous because "the tyrant thinks he is on a mission from God." And, according to the author of the piece posted above from the Texas Baptist Standard, "an unhealthy merger of religious and American identities that seeks special privileges for Christianity." That is somewhat of a "going back to the past" because Christianity once did receive special privileges because so many people in government were Christians.

One of Talarico's remarks that really did catch my eye was his distinction of the support of Christians for Harris from that of Christians who support Trump. Many Christians have tried to turn Trump into some messiah-like figure, or being referred to as "the chosen one." And since the assassination attempt, many of them have claimed divine intervention was present to "save" Trump for this purpose of becoming President again. If that was some kind of divine intervention, then they need to explain why God would have allowed the taking of the life of a 50 year old fireman in front of his children.

"The key difference," said Talarico, "Is that we're not worshipping Kamala Harris. We're just voting for her.

The Evangelicals were seeing tons of money coming in by being the main religion in America. Americans will not be able to choose which religion or no religion. These Zealots are angry about loosing the promises of money and power. Make no mistake, this has nothing to do with beliefs or spirituality!

I view the Evangelicals as making a spiritual deal with the Devil incarnate (Donald Trump), who doesn't have a single religious bone in his body and is the walking embodiment of the 7 deadly sins and has most likely violated all 10 commandments, in exchange for the right to shove their beliefs down everyone else's throat.

Their hypocrisy knows no bounds.

because of the shift to the use of far right wing politics to try and reverse their decline. They basically stopped their evangelism efforts and started promoting right wing politics, which led to a drop off in membership, church attendance and money, which greases the wheels and runs the show.

I was raised in a conservative, Evangelical denomination, the Southern Baptist convention, and it has always been a mess when it comes to being tempted by the power that comes from having a lot of money, and a lot of influence over a lot of people. I still have emotional trauma at times in church, even in a congregation that has a much healthier approach to Christianity as a lifestyle rather than as a legalistic bunch of do's and don'ts. I've been in so many churches where a pastor preached his own gospel, rather than the gospel of Christ, where the racism and bigotry ran thick and where fear of God's supernatural judgment was the way to control the members of the church and their behavior, and where they'd take a pen and change the words of the biblical text to preach what they want.

seems like a bunch of wild-eyed leftists compared to this new breed of evangelical. Most of them identify as “non-denominational”.

According to Matthew, the sheep adhere to Christ’s teachings while the goats proclaim faith, but their faith is without works. Spoiler alert: the goats don’t go to Heaven.

Lots of rhetoric from Republicans, but when it comes down to it, they've either reinterpreted or ignored what doesn't fit with their way of doing things. They want to use political power to boost their revenue, since they haven't been able to attract people any other way.
