Florida announces restrictions on Vermont licenses (from MyChamplainValley.com)

Montpelier, VT – Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced the passing of a law that could render driver’s licenses and other forms of identification from several states invalid, including Vermont.

Florida Senate Bill 1718 is considered to be a policy to crack down on illegal immigration, attempting to prevent the use of publicly funded services by those who may not pay taxes.

As of July 1, in addition to Vermont, four other states’ IDs will face extra scrutiny from police, as they may provide forms of identification to applicants who do not give proof of citizenship or legal status:

Delaware
Connecticut
Hawaii
Rhode Island

The law directs Florida police officers to write a ticket to anyone they pull over who has what is now recognized as an invalid license.

This makes four states DeSantis has pulled this shit on and there's no reason to believe he won't add to the list. I hope a judge kicks him in the ass for this.

In fact most of the cars I have rented in South Florida have had out of state tags on them. I rented a small pickup a couple of months ago and it had TN tags on it. Rental cars get moved all around the country. I doubt that the rental car companies are going to like this one bit. I'm sure they'll bring this mess to court and have it all tossed out.

If I were Joe Biden or any other Democratic candidate, I would hammer these points home. Of course, you need to vote, but we need to start being more aggressive. We can't let the other side dictate the messaging, which they have done a lot, and it has worked. I don't think Ron DeSantis is as stupid as you might think, I know here in Lakeland a lot of people like him. He probably will try to get a lot of support from other red states if he hasn't already.

If you look at Florida resident & visitor numbers, the number of visitors is about 5x the number of residents. Tourism is FL's #1 industry.

DeFascist is literally trying to destroy Florida, & every Democrat who runs away is helping him. I'm not running, I refuse to help that fascist.

for that? I mean, I get this is part of his fascist, campaign theater... and I can't imagine he actually wants to keep out too many of the tourists/snowbirds the state relies on... but has there been some attempt at an explanation for (at least, initially) targeting just these four states?

Nineteen states and the District of Columbia have enacted laws to allow unauthorized immigrants to obtain driver’s licenses. These states—California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, Virginia and Washington—issue a license if an applicant provides certain documentation, such as a foreign birth certificate, foreign passport, or consular card and evidence of current residency in the state.

...when they go to the airport to fly back home they're told their driver's license is not considered a valid form of ID in FL... so... they're prevented from boarding the plane. They're stuck.

I guess they try to rent a hotel room for a while & try to have someone "back home" mail them something that's recognized as valid ID in FL???

This is one of 1,000+ reasons why I'm staying & fighting this mthr fckr.
