Are Supreme Court justices 'tone deaf' or is something 'sinister going on here?'

Judson L. Jeffries

Judson L. Jeffries is professor of African American and African Studies at the Ohio State University and a regular contributor to the Columbus Dispatch.

Are Justices John G. Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel A. Alito, Neil M. Gorsuch, Brett M. Kavanaugh and Amy Coney Barrett tone deaf or is something sinister going on here?

As someone who benefitted greatly from affirmative action, Thomas’ longtime opposition to the program has always been head-scratching. As for Barrett, does she honestly believe affirmative action played no role in her admission into the University of Notre Dame’s law school, an institution that did not begin opening itself up to women in any significant way until 1972?

Is she so obtuse that she doesn’t realize there are few groups that have enjoyed the fruits of affirmative action since its creation more than white women?

What, is the motive behind banning the use of race as a factor in college admissions, especially at a time when the numbers of students of color on the campuses of many predominantly white colleges and universities leave a great deal to be desired?

Diversity enables people to discover that skin color and ethnicity doesn't make people so different. People form friendships and even romances. Their very greatest fear is that their children will present them with a mixed race grandchild.

basically GOP could not get their and the evangelicals extremist agenda passed through lawmaking/legislatures/congress, so they packed the court(s) and are relying on them to use any excuse to shove their shit through.

Fed Society
Koch Bros
ADF (Americans Defending Freedom - a MAGAt hate group)
....etc.

Sheldon Whitehouse has explained in detail the court packing they've been doing, some of the funding and trickery.

They are not "tone deaf". They just don't give a shit. Because they don't have to.

Big money far right is panicking. They see that they could be shut out of politics by the new demographic of country. They have called in all the markers that they've held for years. "Their court" has been told payment is due for all the nice things they have given them.

That said Thomas is actually resentful of what AA did for him--he thinks it says he didn't get admitted on his own merits.
