"Breaking character: I have a lot of experience dealing with a narcissistic sociopath at work."

Last edited Mon Jun 19, 2023, 12:14 PM - Edit history (3)

I have been through a painful experience with a narcissistic sociopath in my family. I can say that his description is spot-on.

Breaking character: I have a lot of experience dealing with a narcissistic sociopath at work. Trump is one as well, so the whole "moving on from Trump" thing is very unlikely to work. GOP is stuck with him til he dies...(1/X)

(2) Narcissistic sociopaths have very different motivations from regular people. If Trump had normal motivations he would have just conceded in 2020 and moved on to being a full-time grifter and media personality.

(3) But that's not how his mind works. He commands a good chunk of the Republican voters and he'll use them to keep the party from turning on him in any real way. They'll never be rid of him til he dies, because...

(5) Once you get into something with a narcissistic sociopath, you will never get out as long as they feel they have something to gain from the situation. And their notion of gain is different from yours.

(6) You are very likely stuck with them forever.

I never knew this type of person existed until I had a brutal experience with one family. I'll bet the common man doesn't know them either. The common man better inform him/her/self because these types of people will damage you unmercifully if you are vulnerable. Protect yourself become informed about this type of personality

Breaking character: A follow-up on narcissistic sociopaths (like Trump) and how they flourish in many contemporary institutions. How do they take people in? I used to think it was gullibility but that's not exactly it...(1/X)

(2) Narcissistic sociopaths make half-assed claims that don't stand up to cursory inspection. People know that much of what they are saying isn't true per se (again, think of Trump). But they are good at pushing buttons...(2/X)

(3) More on the buttons later but the thing is once they've pushed your buttons and you're on their side a little, the maxim "It's easier to follow people than to convince people they've been fooled" kicks in...(3/X)

(4) No one wants to admit they fell for a third-rate con so they dig in with "some of what he says isn't true but he makes some good points". And the longer this goes on, the harder it is to stop and admit you've been a fool..(4/X)

(5) And what are the buttons? Everyone has them and a sociopath is good at pressing them because a sociopath has no underlying core beliefs the way a regular person does so they can move around...

(6) For example, in academia they can be simultaneously pro-racial justice (in some vague nonsensical way), super anti-Trump, concerned about "campus free speech", and a champion of high standards/opponent of grade inflation...

(7) And then there's how other people's cowardice/narcissism kicks in. Well surely, there are two sides to the story, it can't all be just that this (sociopathic) person is unreliable and vindictive. There must be fault on the other side too...

(8) i.e. "my beautiful mind can't be tied so some partisan narrative". And there's this cowardice: no one wants to step forward and take the first bullet. And they think (correctly) the sociopath will fire it, and that those opposing him won't.....

(9) And also too the face-eating leopard will never eat my face. Obviously, this sociopath will screw a lot of people and things up but he won't screw me up....

(10) So probably narcissistic sociopaths fare especially way in areas where others around them have a fair amount of their own narcissism and sociopathy, e.g. politics.
