Gunman Kills One Person and Himself at Texas VA Clinic

A gunman opened fire Tuesday at the Veterans Affairs medical center in El Paso, Texas, killing one person, before shooting and killing himself, authorities said. Neither victim was identified.

"Everything is under control," Army Maj. Gen. Stephen Twitty, commanding general of Fort Bliss in El Paso, said at a news conference Tuesday night.

The clinic serves the El Paso area and Fort Bliss, home to the Army's 1st Armored Division. The fort was on lockdown for about an hour as authorities sought a person with a gun who they believed was acting alone.

The medical center said about an hour after the incident that it would be closed Tuesday and that all appointments would be rescheduled as soon as possible.
