[NC] Senate budget would cut elderly, blind and disabled from Medicaid rolls

Source: Raleigh News & Observer

The Senate budget proposal upends the state Department of Health and Human Services by moving to take away its biggest responsibility, Medicaid. At the same time it would cut thousands of elderly and disabled people, and other beneficiaries with high medical bills, from the government insurance plan.

This appears to be a first step Senate Republicans are proposing to cut Medicaid services and shrink the number of beneficiaries.

The budget includes a provision that would have the state health agency develop proposals by next year for cutting optional Medicaid services for elderly and disabled beneficiaries, limiting coverage to only that required by federal regulations or laws.

North Carolina’s Medicaid program is considered “rich” because it goes far beyond the basics. “Optional” services under Medicaid include prescription drugs, mental health and dental care.

It's terrible for the people of NC, granted, but I was imagining this on a national scale and saying ... WTF?

Is this gonna pass? Are they that mean in NC?

It will make that group of people ineligible for many other services also, because being on Medicaid is proof you are so damn poor you qualify for food stamps, for basic telephone service, and for very low cost meds.
Damn bastards are depriving the most helpless less of the state population of medical and food support.

I did a quick fact check and found a BC/BS insurance report that about 200,000 people in that state are estimated to be eligible and not even signed up for Medicaid.

We are already devastated enough with Koch & Alec Money and the Gerrymandering this caused this. Plust weak support from Dem National Party after 2008 Election when NC went for Obama.

Revernd Barber's Moral Mondays,(Citizen Sit Downs and Actions peaceful actions with over 1,000 citizens (Professors, Physicians, Religious Leaders and ordinary citizens) protesting the horrible cuts in our Budget, Schools, Environmental Protection...everything citizens worked so hard for in NC making us one of the most Democratic Southern States...all gone. Citizens Actions and support from ACLU, Common Cause and others are helping us fight back. Eric Holder won't even address our legal case about Voter Discrimination because he says he won't have time for DOJ to collect enough info until after the Mid-Term Elections... and we had some scandal in our Dem Party which didn't help.

We here in NC worked hard to get Obama elected and worked to get the paperless trail voting machines out..which we accomplished and to grassroots infuse our Dem Party with more energy. Good NC People don't need to be blamed for the money that poured in and the Christian Right.

We are hurting and telling people to boycott NC doesn't help.
