Trump Dollar 'Gold Coin' to Go Into Production, Bessent Says
Source: WSJ
President Trump has added his name or likeness to federal buildings, airports, bridges and even some passports. Now, the U.S. Mint is set to begin striking a dollar coin featuring his face, a rare move to put a sitting president on American money.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent unveiled designs for the new gold coin Wednesday, which show Trumps profile on one side next to the words In God We Trust.

"'If they make this coin, it is illegal and Congress should act to stop it,' said Donald Scarinci, the longest-serving member of that panel. He said Congress should confiscate any of these coins or render them void."

(55,944 posts)save for the value of the gold and no more. (I'd make sure that the coin is 100% gold and not gold-plated.)
BTW, today's price: Gold Prices Per Ounce $4,066.00

(24,826 posts)It wont be for general circulation, and it will cost much more than a dollar, and much more than its market value in gold.
Personally, I think this is just more trolling the libs/placating the boss.

If that's the case, then please proceed.

(544 posts)But when I looked at that, it would have to be more than an ounce in weight right? Now the coin here is described as one ounce. I wonder who decided he wouldn't get his ridiculous hugest coin ever? Three inches wide, can you imagine? I guess someone finally did

(5,495 posts)We don't have to pay h8m a fee to use his license:
The U.S. Mint is not obligated to pay a licensing fee to use Donald Trumps likeness on its coins. As an agency of the federal government, the Mint relies on U.S. copyright law, which exempts official government documents and currency designs from private licensing and royalties.

(116 posts)According to google......"There is no gold in the newly announced Donald Trump $1 commemorative coin. While the U.S. Mint is striking the coin to mark the nation's 250th anniversary, a Treasury Department spokeswoman confirmed it will contain no precious metals and will only feature a "gold-like" finish"

(28,207 posts)The kening on the back is ok by me, but the front - waaay too wide!
Boring typography as in font choice?
I see what you mean about the tilde. Looking it up; I know it's used in languages, but I didn't know it's also used as a symbol for approximation. Don't think I've ever seen that.
