This comes after the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump administration has authority to cancel the Temporary Protected Status program for people from countries like Haiti and Syria.
On Friday the Department of Homeland Security said it would extend work authorization for all 7 countries which lost Temporary Protected Status designation, for an additional one or two weeks. Each country was extended to a new date:
Ethiopia: Extended to July 17, 2026 Somalia: Extended to July 17, 2026 Haiti: Extended to July 24, 2026 Burma: Extended to July 17, 2026 Syria: Extended to July 17, 2026 Yemen: Extended to July 17, 2026 South Sudan: Extended to July 17, 2026
Temporary Protected Status allowed people who were fleeing violence in their home countries to legally live and work in the U.S.
