The turmoil at CBS News after controversial news head Bari Weiss executed a purge at 60 Minutes newsmagazine, which culminated with the firing of popular Scott Pelley, is having a ripple effect, with network executives expressing alarm.
According to media watchdog Status, the immediate aftermath of Scott Pelley's firing saw "CBS Mornings" hemorrhage viewers. The show averaged 1.59 million total viewers in the days following Pelley's terminationan 11 percent drop from the 1.8 million viewers the program was already drawing, with an even more catastrophic 28 percent collapse in the advertiser-coveted 25-54 demographic.
While viewership partially rebounded in subsequent weeks, according to the report, the damage to the program's trajectory remains severe. The June 3 through June 14 period still finished down 6 percent in total viewers compared to the show's year-to-date averagea clear indication that Weiss's editorial overhaul has permanently alienated core audience segments.
The crisis is particularly acute because "CBS Mornings" is on pace for its worst-rated June ever, averaging just 1.7 million total viewers. For network executives, this represents a potential financial catastrophe, according to Oliver Darcy at Status.

There will have to be some serious house-cleaning in media once Project 2025 is relegated to the ash heap of history.

(38,842 posts)..Weiss is not there to improve CBS, its ratings or its popularity.
She's not there to make money for the network. The ownership doesn't care about or need money. What they want is power for the oligarchy.
Weiss is there to kill CBS as a news organization, a role at which she's succeeding.

But I am getting tired of it.
When you have guessed correctly who the main villain is in the first 15 minutes, time to watch another show or read a book.

Uh, wrong country and wrong culture, guys, and if you turn off your core audience, expect them all to turn you off. And if there is ever a Russia style choke hold put on the net, expect non participation there , too, as ewe find alternative and old school ways to communicate, making maximum use of sarcasm and irony, two things this bunch will just NEVER GET.
Lower ratings are just the first stage. Those will continue to drop, people either offended by the McFox content or just following the current trend of finding better content online. Broadcast news is going to have to fight to keep viewers and the likely demise of DBS might be the sad but necessary wakeup call for that.
Well, unless they chicken out again and Bari Weiss is out on her bony butt about the time the first anti discrimination lawsuits start to pour in over her very selective firings.
