New congressional districts will be used for primary in Boone County, county clerk says

"Universally, what we were trying to avoid at the local election official level was an uncertainty, and it's come to the point where that's unavoidable," Lennon said. "There's going to be uncertainty — we're not going to know what's going to happen after the primary election."

The new map of Missouri's congressional districts took the 5th Congressional District in Kansas City — currently held by Democrat Emanuel Cleaver — and redrew it to extend east across rural areas of Missouri, including northern Boone County. This means the candidates some Boone County voters will see on their ballot depended on whether Lennon used the old or new map to assign voters to districts.

Political campaign committee People Not Politicians Missouri said it submitted more than 300,000 signatures to the Secretary of State's Office in December 2025 to freeze the gerrymandered map from taking effect until there is a statewide vote on it.

The Missouri Supreme Court ruled last month that until Hoskins finishes reviewing the signatures and determines whether People Not Politicians' referendum petition was sufficient, it's unknown whether the gerrymandered map is suspended.
