Former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn files suit to block Trump's 'slush fund'

A familiar figure intends to find out. On Wednesday morning, former Capitol Police Officer Harry Dunn, perhaps best known to much of the public for his testimony to the bipartisan Jan. 6 committee, filed a lawsuit with the Public Integrity Project seeking to invalidate the Republican administration’s fund, claiming that it emboldens violence against police and rewards sedition.

Another officer, Daniel Hodges, who also defended the Capitol on Jan. 6, joined Dunn in bringing the lawsuit.

MS NOW’s Britt Miller spoke to Dunn about the lawsuit and this week’s developments. The decorated officer said:

I had the opportunity to talk with lawyers about this. And we are going to sue to stop this illegal slush fund. Now, obviously, we encourage everybody else to sue. Everybody should, this can’t happen. So, we believe that we, the officers in this suit, will be harmed by this. We have been subjected to countless death threats in addition to all the violence that we faced on Jan. 6. But for just speaking out the truth, I mean, I guarantee you somebody’s watching this right now and typing death threats to us right now. And deaths only continue to embolden and potentially continue to arm a militia that Donald Trump will have on retainer.

Two law enforcement officers who clashed with rioters at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, sued Wednesday to block the Trump administration's $1.7 billion "anti-weaponization fund," which was created this week as part of a settlement between President Trump and the federal government.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in the District of Columbia by retired U.S. Capitol Police officer Harry Dunn and Metropolitan Police Department officer Daniel Hodges, asks a federal judge to find the creation of the fund illegal and reverse any transfers that the Treasury Department has made to the Justice Department to implement it.

Both Dunn and Hodges defended the U.S. Capitol after a mob of Trump supporters attempted to stop the certification of the Electoral College on Jan. 6, 2021.

The fund was announced Monday by the Justice Department. In a statement announcing the $1.776 billion fund, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said the fund would "provide a systematic process to hear and redress claims of others who suffered weaponization and lawfare."

. . . should sue the J6ers for intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and throw some other emotioanl distress stuff in the game. Sue them for whatever they get from the Trump slush fund. The bar of proof for these is preponderance of the evidence, which is a fairly low bar.

Or maybe wait until the Trump payments have been paid then go after that.

How can any of this be legal? None of it was ordered by a court. In fact, they were losing in court and shut down the case.

What we have here is a President directing a subordinate to give him almost $2 billion in taxpayer money that was never adjudicated, nor appropriated by Congress.

Ad the selfsame President is directing the IRS to never investigate anybody connected with the President.
