Frontier Airlines jet bound for LAX strikes, kills person on runway during takeoff in Denver

Pilots reported an engine fire and smoke inside the aircraft after the incident.

A Frontier Airlines flight headed to Los Angeles struck and killed a person who was reportedly walking on a runway during takeoff Friday night at Denver International Airport. ... The person was at least partially consumed by one of the engines, an official confirmed to ABC News, causing a brief engine fire that was extinguished by firefighters.

At least one minor injury to a passenger has been reported and all those onboard the plane are being evaluated, which is standard procedure following an evacuation.

The incident happened at around 11:19 p.m. Friday when Frontier Flight 4345 reported striking a pedestrian during takeoff, according to a statement from Denver International Airport. There were 231 souls on board.

A source briefed on the incident told ABC News that airport security was inspecting the east perimeter fence on Saturday morning for gaps and the person struck did not appear to be connected to the work occurring on a parallel runway.

I worked, briefly, as a baggage handler when Stapleton was moving to DIA.

Training included a fair amount about picking up any and all debris that could potentially be sucked into the engines... including ourselves.

Something any competent security company would have been doing on a regular basis.

5. To be fair, they could do daily inspections twice a day and

someone could still damage the fence in between inspections. There is nothing in this report to conclude outright lax security. Not to say it’s impossible, but there is nothing at this point that indicates security was inept.

Or possibly he was out of it through drugs or alcohol ... it's hard to say until they give us more info.
This is awful for the airline pilot and passengers in the plane though.

10. When I was in Navy boot camp in the 70's

one of my instructors told us the story of losing
someone on the flight deck who walked into a propeller by accident. Not crazy, but loud and confusing conditions and he just didn’t see the spinning prop in time.
Later, aboard a flat top myself, stories were told and warnings were issued for flight deck personnel about the dangers of spinning propellers and jet intakes.
I was in the boiler room so heat stroke was what I avoided.
