DOJ says Bondi won't sit for Oversight deposition on Epstein files
Source: The Hill
Former Attorney General Pam Bondi will not comply with a subpoena to appear before the House Oversight Committee as part of its investigation into the Epstein files, the panels Republican leadership said in a statement.
The Department of Justice has stated Pam Bondi will not appear on April 14 for a deposition since she is no longer Attorney General and was subpoenaed in her capacity as Attorney General, a spokeswoman for the House Oversight Committee said in a statement.
The Committee will contact Pam Bondis personal counsel to discuss next steps regarding scheduling her deposition.
The Justice Department did not immediately respond to request for comment.
The panels Democrats have refuted that argument, noting that Bondi was subpoenaed by name to sit for a deposition with the panel, as were other former attorneys general.

(1,038 posts)we can still subpoena her then and if she refuses to honor the subpoena, we hold her in contempt. I'm sick and tired of republiSCUM committing crimes right and left and never being held to account.

After her last appearance, what does any committee member think is the point of having her show anyway?

(334 posts)Even if she did appear for an under oath deposition, she would be lawyered up and invoke her Fifth Amendment rights to almost every question asked. So she may even announce her intention to do so in advance to blunt the effective purpose of the Oversight deposition. And she won't care about any appearance of consciousness of guilt or negative inference from having done that. She can drag out any accountability for her actions for years. And if Trump gives her a blanket pardon for any and all actions she performed while AG, all investigations of her would be moot.

(13,025 posts)After all, you don't have to worry about the consequences of incriminating yourself if you've already been pardoned.

(29,801 posts)File a lawsuit to obtain the information. Its the way things are done now. Even if trump pardons her, it doesn't negate her having to answer questions.

The Department of Justice has stated Pam Bondi will not appear on April 14 for a deposition since she is no longer Attorney General and was subpoenaed in her capacity as Attorney General, Oversight Committee spokeswoman Jessica Collins said in a statement to MS NOW. The Committee will contact Pam Bondis personal counsel to discuss next steps regarding scheduling her deposition.
Assistant Attorney General Patrick Davis made that case in a letter to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., arguing that Bondi was subpoenaed in her official capacity as Attorney General, rather than her personal capacity.
Ms. Bondi no longer holds that office. As a result, because Ms. Bondi no longer can testify in her official capacity as Attorney General, the Departments position is that the subpoena no longer obligates her to appear on April 14, he added. We kindly ask that you confirm that the subpoena is withdrawn.....
The lawmakers argued that Bondis testimony is even more important in light of her recent firing.
The removal of Pam Bondi as Attorney General does not diminish the Committees legitimate oversight interests in seeking her sworn testimony or the need for accountability and information about files withheld from the public by the DOJ, Khanna and Mace wrote. On the contrary, it makes her sworn testimony even more important, especially with respect to actions she took as Attorney General, matters already under investigation, and decisions made under her leadership.
There will be litigation and/or motion for contempt of Congress coming
