Former special counsel Robert Mueller has died

Robert Mueller, who served as special counsel in the investigation into Russias interference in the 2016 election, died on Friday, according to two people familiar with the matter. He was 81.
The cause of death was not immediately known, but Mueller had been suffering from Parkinsons disease for years, the people said.
Mueller, whose two-year probe concluded in 2019 that Russia had interfered in the election with the intent benefitting President Donald Trumps 2016 campaign, served as FBI director from 2001 to 2013. The Justice Department in 2017 appointed him special counsel to oversee the growing investigation after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey.

(310 posts)He could have been a real patriot and went after Bill Barr for interfering with his investigation and raised the alarm about what he found, especially when he saw Trump was beating the rap. He chose to remain silent and out of the limelight knowing what danger we were in.

Mr. Muellers family confirmed his death in a statement Saturday to the Associated Press. Mr. Mueller had been diagnosed with Parkinsons disease in 2021, according to a statement his family shared with the New York Times last year.
During more than four decades in law enforcement as line prosecutor, U.S. attorney and FBI chief Mr. Mueller developed a reputation as a stickler for detail who savored methodical investigation and nearly always got his man. Some colleagues privately spoke of the decorated Marine veteran as Bobby Three Sticks, referring to his patrician pedigree and the three-fingered Boy Scout salute.....
Mr. Mueller maintained a public silence through the 22 months of his Russia investigation, which yielded indictments leading to convictions of a Trump campaign chairman, a deputy campaign manager, a national security adviser and one of his personal attorneys.
In his report, released in April 2019, Mr. Mueller concluded that the Russian government perceived it would benefit from a Trump presidency and worked to secure that outcome, and that the Trump campaign expected it would benefit electorally from information stolen and released through Russian efforts.
RIP Bobby Three Sticks
