Trump Claims 'Absolute Right' to Impose Tariffs as He Rages Against Courts in 950-Word Late Night Truth Social Tirade

Source: MEDIAite

Mar 16th, 2026, 7:09 am

President Donald Trump launched a late-night attack on the U.S. Supreme Court and the “politicized” judiciary more generally on Sunday, insisting he retains “the absolute right” to impose tariffs despite a major ruling that struck down large parts of his administration’s trade policy. In a Truth Social screed approaching 1,000 words, the president accused the court of “hurting” the country and insisted his administration would pursue alternative legal routes to continue imposing import duties.

“The Courts treat Republicans, and me, so unfairly, always seeming to protect those who should not be protected. They are highly politicized. Cases don’t matter, the Judge does!” he began. The president went on to rage at Judge James Boasberg for having nixed efforts by the Department of Justice to investigate the Federal Reserve, a move that Fed chair Jerome Powell slammed as triggered by his refusal to lower interest rates despite mounting pressure from the White House.

He wrote: “I strongly criticized Jerome “Too Late” for his horrible performance throughout his tenure, which is either gross incompetence, total dishonesty, or both, and, in return for this well justified criticism, get viciously and wrongfully blamed by, as usual, a Wacky, Nasty, Crooked, and totally Out of Control Judge, named James Boasberg, a man who suffers from the highest level of Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS), and has been “after” my people, and me, for years.”

Boasberg, Trump claimed, displayed “open, flagrant, and extreme partisan bias and contempt against Republicans and the Trump Administration.” The president also rounded on the Supreme Court, which ruled in February that the administration had improperly relied on a 1977 emergency powers law to justify sweeping tariffs imposed last year on goods from countries around the world. The decision dealt a significant blow to Trump’s aggressive trade agenda, which has relied heavily on tariffs as a central tool of economic policy.

Trump is a one trick pony - he will keep on throwing tantrums, threatening, and ranting, but that won't work any more. Time for him to leave the stage..

something that will justify him declaring martial law. He found out that ICE protests were not enough to declare, so he's hoping that Iran will attack the Continental US, so he can declare.

He is in a race to take over the country before The Epstein files, the elections, and his Iran blunder catch up with him. He knows that if he fails, he has no place to escape to anymore. He is a desperate despot. He is trying to gum up the works with lawsuits and appeals, and distractions - his usual tactic to get his ass out of a corner. His allies are abandoning him. But the tide is turning against him, and he feels it, so expect him to do something outrageous.

Up to now, He has relied on the GOP to cover his ass, but they are sick of his crap, and they all see that Trump will take the entire party down with him, so they are starting to distance themselves. Even Christian Mike is looking for an exit - he knows he is making a fool of himself protecting Trump.

IOW folks, we are headed to a fustercluck... We, as defenders of the Constitution, should double down our efforts to jail Trump. Now is not the time to let up.. Keep on needling him, and exposing the pedophile and his cult.. And make certain that he suffers the consequences of his own actions.

Kavanaugh’s dissent argued that the president’s backup plan might succeed, but the majority didn’t preapprove it.

MSNow : No, the US Supreme Court didn’t say trump has ‘absolute right to charge TARIFFS’ differently

www.ms.now/deadline-whi...

Joe Public (@joepublic.bsky.social) 2026-03-16T17:05:56.633Z

https://www.ms.now/deadline-white-house/deadline-legal-blog/no-the-supreme-court-didnt-say-trump-has-absolute-right-to-charge-tariffs-differently

President Donald Trump complained on Sunday night about some of his legal losses, including last month’s Supreme Court tariffs ruling, which said he didn’t have the power he claimed to have under a law called the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. One of the untrue things he wrote in lengthy Truth Social posts was that the court “pointed out” that he has “the absolute right to charge TARIFFS in another form.”

It’s true that Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s dissent said that “the Court’s decision might not prevent Presidents from imposing most if not all of these same sorts of tariffs under other statutory authorities.” But that musing only represented the view of the three dissenters on the nine-member court: Kavanaugh and Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito.

In his majority opinion, Chief Justice John Roberts stressed that the court wasn’t weighing in on those other authorities.

Roberts wrote in a footnote that Kavanaugh’s dissent “surmises that the President could impose ‘most if not all’ of the tariffs at issue under statutes other than IEEPA.” The chief justice wrote that those other authorities “contain various combinations of procedural prerequisites, required agency determinations, and limits on the duration, amount, and scope of the tariffs they authorize.” Roberts concluded that the court doesn’t “speculate on hypothetical cases not before us.”

So, contrary to the president’s social media complaint, the court didn’t preapprove his tariffing backup plan, which is the subject of new litigation.

The high court could eventually be called on to settle that new litigation, as it did the IEEPA case. But the majority didn’t predetermine the outcome of future litigation in that case.
