'no idea' about his crimes
Former President Bill Clinton insisted that he had no idea about the scope of Jeffrey Epsteins crimes during a deposition with congressional investigators on Friday.
I know what I saw, and more importantly, what I didnt see, he told members of the House Oversight Committee. I know what I did, and more importantly, what I didnt do. I saw nothing, and I did nothing wrong.
Clinton met with the Republican-led committee, which is conducting a lengthy investigation into Epstein and the network that helped facilitate his reported decades of sex trafficking, near his home in Chappaqua, N.Y., a day after his wife, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, told the members that she too was unaware of Epsteins criminal activity.
The hearings come after months of back-and-forth between the Clintons and GOP leaders of the committee, who ultimately forced the couple to agree to appear by threatening to hold them in contempt of Congress.

(12,102 posts)That gave him the gravitas he wanted to get close to bigger and richer targets.
Jeffrey Epsteins longtime companion, Ghislaine Maxwell, played a substantial role in supporting the creation of the Clinton Global Initiative, one of President Bill Clintons signature post-White House endeavors, new documents released by the Justice Department show.
Maxwell took part in budget discussions related to the first Clinton Global Initiative conference; talked through challenges about it with both Clinton aides and Publicis Groupe, the company that produced the inaugural event; and arranged to wire $1 million to pay Publicis for its work on the Clinton project, according to emails in the massive cache of documents collected as part of the governments investigations of Epstein.
....
Maxwells involvement in the launch of the Clinton Global Initiative took place in 2004, before Epsteins 2006 indictment and 2008 guilty plea for solicitation of prostitution with a minor, and long before Maxwell, a daughter of media baron Robert Maxwell, was sentenced in 2022 to two decades in prison for conspiring with Epstein to sexually exploit underage girls.
The source of the money is unclear, including whether Epstein provided the funds. However, the emails show that he was aware of the payment.

(17,367 posts)And I think we know hes acted on those flirtations. But I cannot for the life of me picture him raping someone.
If its proven that hes done something wrong, then he can fry with the rest of them. But I just dont think hes the type.
I have no trouble believing that Donald Trump raped children. Because hes nasty and gross and hung up on power.
Therein lies the difference for me.
Ive said this numerous times on DU and I havent changed my mind.

(21,745 posts)For the record though, some of Epstein's girls were 18+, all the way up to at least 22.

(17,367 posts)That's not negotiable.
But I don't think he did. I think he's too smart for that.
And as crappy this is going to sound - he wasn't wanting for female attention. There seemed to be plenty of women who admitted to having had a relationship with him. So, I think if he wanted sex, it was probably available to him without him having to force anyone.
