Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) reiterated Sunday that he will not support Kevin Warsh, President Trumps nominee to chair the Federal Reserve, until the Department of Justice (DOJ) concludes its probe into Fed Chair Jerome Powell.
Ive tried to make it very clear that I have no intention of supporting any confirmation of any Fed board member, chair or otherwise
until this is resolved, Tillis told host Ed OKeefe on CBS Newss Face the Nation.
Tillis, who sits on the Senate Banking Committee, has repeatedly criticized the DOJs investigation into Powell over the cost of the renovation of two Fed buildings in Washington, D.C. Upon the opening of the DOJs inquiry into the central bank last month, Tillis said he would oppose any of Trumps Fed nominees until the investigation concluded, arguing it threatened the central banks independence.
Late last month, Trump announced Warsh as his nominee to succeed Powell whose term expires in May. The president has consistently criticized the central bank chair, whom he nominated during his first term, for not backing an earlier or larger interest rate cut.
