Rep. Randy Fine (R-Fla.) has introduced a bill to make Greenland the 51st state in the U.S., following President Trumps recent push to acquire the Danish territory.
The Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act was introduced by the Florida Republican on Monday, his office said in a press release. The bills goals, according to its text, include enabling the annexation and subsequent admission to statehood of Greenland.
Greenland is not a distant outpost we can afford to ignoreit is a vital national security asset, Fine said in the press release. Whoever controls Greenland controls key Arctic shipping lanes and the security architecture protecting the United States.

Randy Fine is bloated SOB!!
GOP Rep. Randy Fine is introducing a bill that would authorize Donald Trump to take such steps as may be necessary to take over Greenland and place it on a pathway toward becoming part of the United States.
I think it is in the worlds interest for the United States to exert sovereignty over Greenland, Fine told Fox News.

(1,857 posts)50k people that don't want to be part of the United states is ok but 3.5 million in Puerto Rico that have voted to become a state isn't.
WTF?
Why not Puerto rico and Virgin islands as the 51st state? Let greenland vote for it first. Maybe once they do then they can become a part of the 51st state.

(258 posts)Blankin', certifiably, insane. Yet the media will sane-wash it and help frame the debate as if it is reasonable to just go take over someone else's territory, like Hitler in 1938 or Putin in 2014.

And also -- The world's "best interest" is the opposite of whatever Randy Fine thinks.

(11 posts)This isn't just a "bill"it's a declaration that the Republican Party no longer respects international law or sovereign borders. Imagine being Denmark right now. Youve been a loyal NATO ally for decades, only to have U.S. representatives introduce legislation to seize your territory like its 19th-century "Manifest Destiny."
This is exactly how you destroy every strategic alliance we have left. Its colonialist, its delusional, and its dangerous. Does anyone remember when we used to criticize other countries for "annexing" territory? I guess that only applies when we aren't the ones doing it.

The guy has mush for brains and he wouldn't even be aware of fine's gesture. I'm pretty sure this won't even make it to the floor.

(112 posts)Of course a Republican would want Greenland to be a state. It's got valuable resources, large area and the population is almost exclusively white. But he wouldn't say that about Venezuela.
