Google warns some visa employees not to leave the US due to 'significant' return delays of up to a year

Google has advised some employees on visas not to travel outside the US due to delays at embassies, Business Insider has learned. The company's outside counsel BAL Immigration Law sent an email on Thursday advising staff who require a visa stamp to re-enter the US not to leave the country because visa processing was taking longer than usual, according to a copy of the memo reviewed by Business Insider.

"Please be aware that some US Embassies and Consulates are experiencing significant visa stamping appointment delays, currently reported as up to 12 months," the memo read. It was recommended that employees avoid international travel as they would "risk an extended stay outside the US."

American consulates and embassies around the world are seeing delays with routine visa appointments following the introduction of a new social media screening requirement, which applies to H-1B visa workers and their dependents, as well as students and exchange visitors.

On Friday, a spokesperson for the Department of State told Business Insider it was conducting "online presence reviews for applicants." The department said it may move appointments as resources change, with applicants able to request expedited slots on a case-by-case basis. "While in the past the emphasis may have been on processing cases quickly and reducing wait times, our embassies and consulates around the world, including in India, are now prioritizing thoroughly vetting each visa case above all else," the State Department spokesperson said.

Catholic dioceses are advising foreign national clergy not to leave the country to visit home, as some have been denied re-entry while trying to return.

International students are in the same jam.

The World Cup is going to be sh*tshow.

due to the chaos and gun violence in the United States under this administration. Same with the Olympics... although I hope by 2028 we might be in a position to try to turn some of this back around.

This administration is filled with Nazis ... you can tell by the way corporations are advising their employees. But they won't do anything because they are afraid. Rat f*cking cowards is what Hitler depended on ... it worked then, and is working now. STAND UP or FALL FOR ANY THING.

Taking a year to comb through people’s Instagram and Facebook? And DU? Apparently the constitution was changed when we weren’t looking.

covering it in ketchup during one of his infamous rage tantrums. We certainly have lost rights... some of us have lost more rights than others, but everyone has lost some. And now, with them wanting to create this all inclusive database of American citizens, nothing you do is private anymore. Everything from info on voting registrations, marriage licenses, and drivers licenses, and who knows what else is to be included in this database... including physical profiling. I'm sure "short, fat, and ugly" is how a lot of women are going to be profiled in that case... and I'm certain they'll be okay with it (at least, if they're magas, right?)
