House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) went off on the Trump administration on Thursday, ramping up his regular attacks on Republicans by mocking President Donald Trump as the Titanic and marveling that people still arent jumping ship yet.
The Republicans are losers. Why are you bending the knee at this point in time? Its not clear to you that, as Michael Ray Richardson, the great former New York Knick, once said, the ship be sinking, its over. This is the Titanic. I dont get it, Jeffries said at one point during his presser on Capitol Hill.
You have a reaction to this board vote today to change the Kennedy Center name to the Trump Kennedy Center? a reporter asked Jeffries.
The New York Democrat answered with a lengthy rant, With respect to the latest foolishness to come out of the Trump administration, I mean, it really seems to me at this point that Donald Trump doesnt give a damn about the prospects of the country and the Republican Party. The notion Donald Trump has spent more time on the golf course than trying to keep health care affordable for the American people or drive down the high cost of living, in and of itself, is extraordinary. But then we layer on top of thathe can find $40 billion to bail out Argentina. Hes trying to extort $230 million from the Department of Justice. He literally has ordered the destruction of the East Wing of the White House. At the same time, he says the affordability crisis is a hoax.

(40,790 posts)When he was a 6 foot-5 inch coke addicted version of Magic Johnson on his way to getting kicked out of the NBA. He died last month making it to 70 and living a full, productive life. Im an old Knick fan and Jeffries trotting out that quote right now makes me want to hug him.

Who doesn't understand that the desire to eat is stronger than the desire to die?

(21,534 posts)The first hour after the ship struck the iceberg, the passengers on the Titanic were unaware that the ship was doomed. Very few boarded the first couple of lifeboats that were launched.
Could be a similar situation with Repugs. They're in total denial over the danger of hanging onto MAGA.

(3,611 posts)Once the life boats were full and had pulled away, where else could they go? Into the water? That was as much a guaranteed death as going down with the ship.
Most of these people won't end up on cable news. Their reputations are in the toilet - even if they did nothing wrong, they carry the stench of the current administration - so respectable jobs are going to be hard to find. For them, staying with the stricken vessel may a lack of options as much as anything else.
