Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan found guilty of felony obstruction
Source: Milwaukee Journal Sentinel
Milwaukee County Judge Hannah Dugan was found guilty of a felony count of obstructing federal agents seeking to make an immigration arrest outside her courtroom, a precedent-setting case that has been closely watched nationally and drawn passionate protests.
A jury of seven men and five women deliberated more than six hours before delivering a split verdict. They found the judge not guilty on a lesser misdemeanor charge of concealing a wanted person.
The case thrust Dugan, a judge for nine years, into the center of the clash between the judiciary and the Trump administration over its crackdown on illegal immigration.
We werent trying to make an example out of anyone. This was necessary to hold Judge Dugan accountable because of the actions she took, Interim U.S. Attorney Brad Schimel said. Theres not a political aspect to it.

(4,828 posts)Can't understand why there wasn't more pushback against the Trump government in this case by the locals who had been impaneled.
Judge Dugan righteously stood for a principle I can wholeheartedly agree with.
You don't send agents to ambush people who are complying with their legal and civic duty to show up to court.
Even if the judge in the case imposes a de minimis sentence, Hannah Dugan will be disbarred because of her felony conviction.
Trump is the cause of so much injustice and suffering. May the devil take him away from us asap.

Though a few of them are pretty close.
Im not sure in what basis it would be overturned if it doesnt get tossed by the judge on a motion to set aside. Jury nullification was her best shot.

(16,532 posts)While it's easy to fault a jury when you were hoping for a different outcome , ultimately they were the ones privy to the evidence, and I was not.
When all 12 jurors come to the same conclusion after hearing both sides present their arguments, the case against her must have been pretty compelling.

But judges aren't royalty, a caste above all others who cannot be touched.

(4 posts)Supposedly the presiding judge (Adelman) was a progressive, and soon to retire. I was hoping he would have stepped in and thrown this case out.
