More than 30,000 people likely to lose Medicaid coverage from proposal allowed under ‘big, beautiful bill,’ Gov. Jim Pillen says

By: Juan Salinas II - December 17, 2025 4:56 pm

LINCOLN — Nebraska stepped Wednesday toward becoming the first state in the country to start its implementation of new federal work requirements for Medicaid health insurance recipients beginning May 1 of the new year.

Gov. Jim Pillen, joined on Zoom by Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Dr. Mehmet Oz and in person by state health officials, rolled out the state’s plans for the new federal requirement as a “hand up and not a hand out.”

“We’re not here to take everybody to the curb … [but] making sure we get every able-bodied Nebraskan to be part of our community,” Pillen said.

State health officials said the new requirements apply to work-eligible adults in the Medicaid expansion population aged 19 to 64. Those Medicaid recipients will be required to work at least 80 hours a month or be enrolled in school at least half-time to receive or keep health coverage.

He actually went back to work. Cooking. He loved it. I bought him shoes and knives. Nice restaurant.

He just couldn’t physically do it. He couldn’t ride a bike (which he loved) for a few years due to his neck. He called to tell me he had to quit.

He had great social workers and could have basically lived in the hospital. He was in worse health than we were aware of. He passed two months ago.

household size, age, disability, family status, and if your state expanded Medicaid.

If you work 80 hrs. per month, wouldn't it take you out of the bracket that qualifies you for Medicaid ???

Sometimes only a few dollars decides if you qualify or not.

as the pukes strip away any assistance for the non-wealthy.

A famous Irish writer used the term "blooding" to describe what krasnov is doing--getting 'Muricans used to the deaths and killing, first of "others" and then among fellow citizens.
