US Military Reacts After JetBlue Reports Near Miss with Air Force Plane

Source: Newsweek

U.S. Southern Command said it is reviewing reports of a near midair collision after a JetBlue pilot said his aircraft was forced to halt its climb Friday to avoid a U.S. Air Force refueling tanker in the Caribbean.

“We are aware of the recent reporting regarding U.S. military aircraft operations in the Caribbean and are currently reviewing the matter," U.S. Southern Command said in a statement to Newsweek. "Military aircrews are highly trained professionals who operate in accordance with established procedures and applicable airspace requirements. Safety remains a top priority, and we are working through the appropriate channels to assess the facts surrounding the situation.

Why It Matters

The Federal Aviation Administration last month (FAA) warned U.S. aircraft to exercise caution in Venezuelan airspace because of worsening security conditions and increased military activity in and around the country.

What To Know

The response follows an Associated Press report that JetBlue Flight 1112, en route from Curaçao to New York, stopped its ascent after the pilot warned air traffic control of a potential collision. According to recordings of the exchange, the pilot said the military aircraft crossed directly into the jet’s flight path without an active transponder.

But if this can happen to a jet filled with the middle class it could happen to a private jet carrying someone who really matters!

They are not a major supplier of drugs to the US, and he is using lies to justify overturning the government of a sovereign nation. Republicans in Congress know this, yet they do not counter the lies or lift a hand to prevent war.

From PolitiFact:

“Most U.S. overdose deaths are because of fentanyl, a synthetic, often deadly opioid frequently present in illicit street drugs.

Most illicit fentanyl in the U.S. comes from Mexico, not Venezuela, and is made with chemicals from Chinese labs. It enters the U.S. mainly through the southern border at official ports of entry, and it’s smuggled in mostly by U.S. citizens.

"There is no evidence of fentanyl or cocaine laced with fentanyl coming from Venezuela or anywhere else in South America.”

Like the helicopter crew that brought down the airline over DCA?

"Safety remains a top priority"??? Tell that to the relatives of the dead skaters who died because of military incompetence.

Crashing another US passenger jet, with hundreds of dead Americans, is going to vastly complicate Trump's pseudo-war with Venezuela. I imagine the Dutch government is right now trying to limit US ops in their airspace.

There are currently 127 flights a day to the Dutch ABC islands, from the US, Canada, and Europe. The islands depend on air transportation for their economy as well as their goods.
