NEW: Alleged Drug Boat U.S. Bombed Twice Reportedly Wasn't Even Heading to the States

The alleged drug boat hit with two American airstrikes in September was reportedly not bound for the United States.
Admiral Frank Bradley, who oversaw the controversial double-tap bombing, told lawmakers on Thursday that the boat was set to meet and transfer drugs to a larger vessel, which the military was unable to locate. This second vessel was heading for the South American country of Suriname, two sources with direct knowledge of Bradleys remarks told CNN.
The admiral maintained that the strike was nevertheless justified, as the drugs allegedly onboard could still have made their way into the United States. The narrative contradicts President Donald Trumps initial statement after the strike was carried out, in which he claimed the vessel was heading to the United States. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the same day that the boat was likely bound for Trinidad or another Caribbean country.
The airstrikes sparked controversy this week after a Washington Post report alleged that a double-tap on survivors was initiated in order to comply with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseths directive to the SEAL team in charge of the operation to kill every individual on board.

(78,640 posts)Probably because it never existed in this particular case.
Original smaller boat never headed to the US.
When people keep shifting their story it means they are lying.

(78,640 posts)The second lie covers contradictions of the first lie; the third lie covers the second and so on. The GOP (greatly obnoxious prevaricators), is reminiscent of Maxwell Smart and Tommy Flanagan (Lovitz on SNL), but at least those "liars" were funny. The assholes and idiots in Trump World are as funny as colon cancer.

(30,886 posts)to Trinidad to a bigger ship and then on to Europe. Even the bigger ships weren't going to the United States.
But we will never know because we just kill people.

(20,354 posts)It seems that would have been the big haul and a way to cripple the traffickers. If what they say is true.

(7 posts)Not to get off the she said, he said lies about this dreadful event but the question I have is how much do these bombs that are reigning hell on those boats cost per explosion? The bombs are launched from a drone which makes them a specifically built ,expensive destructive weapon. So two of them at one boat? Sarcastically, what is your ROI? Waste fraud and abuse was the Musk model of making sure tax dollars were not wasted. This is a game to these people and the blowback from the world is going to last a long time.

(8,582 posts)These boats are island hoppers, not deep ocean going vessels. They could be delivering goods to those islands, or even to a different town on the coast.
We're killing these people and destroying their boats without any real evidence of drug trafficking. Technically they're not war crimes since we aren't at war, but we are in violation of International Law.
These attacks are acts of moral depravity; political theater for the MAGAts back home. The provocations are at best misdirection from our equally depraved immigration policy, and, of course, a distraction from the ever deepening Epstein scandal.
We are destroying our nation's standing with the rest of the world, while running the risk of a shooting war with Venezuela.
At the same time, Trump pardons a big time drug lord!
It's evident this isn't about drugs at all.
Justice matters.
(9,198 posts)Costly crimes for show! Not only shameful, but they get off on being cruel.
No wonder US travelers abroad want to stick Canadian flag stickers on their luggage...
