'Your time is done': GOP senator slammed from both sides after posting 'staged' photo

Republican senator John Cornyn of Texas took heat from anti-Donald Trump observers and MAGA on Saturday after he posted a "staged" photo.
Cornyn, who has been largely supportive of Trump's agenda but has bucked the President at other times, took to X this week to post a photo of himself reading Trump's Art of the Deal. The ghostwriter for that book has since opposed the President. "Recommended," Cornyn wrote.
MAGA fans didn't buy what one outlet labeled a "staged" photo of himself with the Trump memorabilia. Right-wing podcaster Nick Sortor said, "I recommend [Ken Paxton] over John Cornyn."A MAGA lawyer known as DC_Draino wrote, "You passed the biggest gun control bill in decades as a Senator from TEXAS." "We want you gone," the attorney added.
Popular MAGA influencer Gunther Eagleman chimed in with, "Bye John, you failed Texas. Big time! Paxton is real America First." Right-wing author Steve Friend said, "You voted to renew FISA 702. Treasonous coward."Republican candidate Alexander Duncan said, "You are trying way too hard." "You’ve been anti-Trump and anti-MAGA from the very beginning. You really think we’re stupid don’t you? We don’t forget. Your time is done," Duncan then added.

As a note, Cornyn's seat is up in 2026 so looks like the MAGats are getting ready to primary him.

Destroy MAGA.
Destroy MAGA politicians.
Destroy MAGA “influencers”.
Storm the headquarters.
Destroy them all. They are a threat to the country, the world and the future. They are not people under the thrall of a cult leader. They went willingly because the leader said out loud what they believe and want.

(23,384 posts)MAGA is a cancer on Democracy.
These people are ignorant, illiterate, uncurious, uneducated, bigoted and insular. Additionally, they are un-American in their policies and they do not know the civics of our system of government. They have nothing of value to offer. But they sure are willing to take government handouts and entitlements!
I know many MAGA-types and I have family members who are enthralled by Trump. They are fundamentally useless people for this country.

(29,860 posts)A brand new Senator, just as sick and twisted and vile as Ted Cruz. That's the only way Cornyn looks remotely acceptable: In comparison to Cruz. God help my poor, suffering state. Texas Democrats---the 4.8 million who cast votes for Kamala Harris---get busy.

Worse than Paxton as a Senator (running screaming with hair on fire!) ole Cancun Ted becomes the Senior Senator from the Formerly Great Lone Star State.
I can’t even…

I honestly have NEVER met a Ted Cruz fan - there are simply too many people in Texas who will ONLY vote for the R next to the name.......

(23,141 posts)I can't even think of anyone who might try. I do not think Beto will run again and we really don't have a star to challenge a senator. State wide races are hard for Democrats down here. It may end up being a sacrificial run.

(19,774 posts)Personally, I always detested John Cornyn, but I'm not happy with this development.
He was usually standing ominously in the background during the signing of poisonous bills, shit eating half grin on his smug face.
But now he stepped just a little out of line against Trump and they will show other members of Congress what happens if they do that.
They will all but crucify him and destroy his career in favor of a lickspittle replacement, reinforcing their power.
Clearly he's already desperately trying to fall back in line behind the dictator.

We really need her in the House!

(23,141 posts)After her filibuster in the Texas Senate, she was a rock star. So the Texas Democratic Party started prepping her to run for governor, which turned out to be a horrible mistake. She would have been re-elected to the State Senate if she had not run for governor. Another couple of terms in the State Senate would have put her in a great position to run for Mayor of Ft Worth, or Congress.
Ultimately she moved to Austin, got married and ran for a Congressional District down there. She did not win.
She can still turn out a crowd when she speaks at an event though.
Katie Porter's run for the US Senate race in California is the same thing. She could have stayed in the House for a few more terms and really done some good for us. Instead she entered a race she was unlikely to win and we lost a good Representative. I read this week that Katie has declared she will run for Governor of California. I wish her luck, but Kamala will win if she runs

(23,141 posts)He can't be on the ballot for two different offices. This would make the Attorney General an open race, which a Democrat could sneak in and win. Just getting Paxton out of the AG spot would be worth it.

People who are book readers are often sitting back lounging on a sofa or soft chair (or even in bed) and maybe holding the book in both hands. And if at a table or desk, the book isn't held up like that - your arms might be resting on the table with the book balanced on the table.
That's why they called it "staged".
