Medicaid portals down in all 50 states after Trump funding freeze, Sen. Wyden says
Source: CNBC
Medicaid reimbursement portals were down Tuesday in all 50 states on the heels of a funding freeze ordered by the Trump administration of federal grants and loans, Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said.
Sen. Chris Murphy, a Connecticut Democrat, separately said that his states Medicaid payment system has been turned off.
Doctors and hospitals cannot get paid, Murphy wrote in a tweet. Discussions ongoing about whether services can continue.
As of October, there were 72,058,701 Americans enrolled in Medicaid, which provides health coverage to primarily low-income people, in addition to pregnant women, the elderly, and people with disabilities. Medicaid is jointly funded by the federal government and states.
The shutdown in access to the Medicaid system came a day after the acting Office of Management and Budget Director Matthew Vaeth issued a memo ordering a Temporary Pause of Agency Grant, Loan, and Other Financial Assistance Programs.
...
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt, speaking at a news conference Tuesday, said, Ill check back on that and get back to you, when asked if Medicaid payments were affected by the OMB order.
Murphy fired back at Leavitt in a tweet, writing, 72 MILLION people rely on this health insurance and you have to get back to us?!? Are you f****** kidding me?

(4,967 posts)We don't know the percentage of adults on Medicaid who voted for Trump. This is tragic and outrageous.

(75 posts)This is the time to gloat. Some of the very people who said they hated Kamala, and love the taste of "leftist tears" are some of the same people who are worried now and crying about what the convicted felon president is doing. We knew all along that all of us was going to catch Hell but I find some satisfaction in seeing the right-wing haters begin to suffer with what they voted for.

(2 posts)I doubt Medicare will be far behind.
Medicaid makes up part of most medical funding for medical services that use other insurance income, like Medicare and private insurance.
I don't expect Medicare to remain safe following this move. He is basically targeting retirees, seniors, low income families, which includes us boomers and most disabled patients.

(29,242 posts)If Medicaid is being disabled in any fashion, it's time for us to be in the streets, protesting---millions of us.
I am old, feeble, and heavily reliant on Medicaid---but I'll damn sure show up. Enough, already.
