Sen. John Fetterman wears shorts and a hoodie to Trump inauguration
Source: NBC News
While the presidential inauguration was moved inside Monday due to the bitter cold outside, Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) didn't let the cold bother him.
Fetterman arrived to the U.S. Capitol for the swearing-in ceremony in a pair of grey shorts, a black-hooded sweatshirt and black On Cloud sneakers.
Fetterman can regularly be seen in a similar outfit around the Capitol.
The senator could be seen wearing the more relaxed attire after returning to the Capitol from receiving in-patient treatment for clinical depression at Walter Reed Medical Center. At the time, people close to Fetterman say his relaxed, comfortable style is a sign that the senator is making a robust recovery and returning to his more authentic, original style, the Associated Press reported.

(20,400 posts)but you’re a US Senator. Put a suit on. If any Republican showed up like that, we’d roast the hell out of them.

(109,066 posts)and yeah, disrespectful--not to Trump (who the hell cares), but to the people who elected him to represent them.
We are stuck with him for a while, but I wouldn't bet on his remaining a Dem and if he does, being reelected if he keeps defending TSF & MAGA's horrific plans. Maybe it is "organic," maybe it is residual damage, maybe it is continuing mental health issues or meds. But something has snapped in him it would appear.

(13,570 posts)and the larger question I suppose - is does he really care? With the answer being - 'apparently not greatly.'
So far - he appears to be a great deal more fixated on himself - than anything to do with service or running the country.

(7,641 posts)I'd put on a damn suit for this.
At the very least slacks and a collared shirt.
He's simply a contrarian who needs to do the opposite of what's expected.

(11,700 posts)Continues to be an embarrassment. I was going to say that he was an embarrassment to Pennsylvania, but since my former home state put Mango Mussolini over the top, he's fitting right in with the deplorables there.
And yinz all said that Connor Lamb was a DINO....
FakeNoose
(37,112 posts)... he would have attended the inaugural in a Chumpy outfit - oversized blue suit, white dress shirt, too-long red tie.
He didn't do that because he's flipping the bird at Chump and the MAGAs. Why do people have trouble seeing that? I'm from Pittsburgh and we say we're flying the "state bird of West Virginia" - when you give someone the finger.
Deep State Witch
(11,700 posts)But the way he's been acting lately, I think it's more likely that he's seen the writing on the wall and is moving to the right.
BTW, I'm also from Pittsburgh originally. North Allegheny HS and Chatham University.

(32,761 posts)Instead of flipping politically, I think he's flipping another way.
He could have found something else to wear. I'm all for comfort, but this is an optional event. It's like a formal wedding. He could have at least worn a shirt and pants.

(37,112 posts)We have a lot of them here in Pennsylvania, in case you missed the Election in November.
Here' a clue: If Senator Bob Casey had won his re-election for a 4th term, Fetterman would be doing his regular schtick. But Casey didn't, a carpetbagger named Dave McCormick won and Casey is out. Now Fetterman will be sweating bullets for probably the next 4 years. He's still a Democrat and he always will be one of us.

(37,112 posts)He knows Fetterman is playing a game. The cabinet picks were going to win anyway without Fetterman's vote. It almost always goes that way for any new President. If Fetterman's vote would have made a difference, he would toe the line.

(16,726 posts)He used to be much heavier than he is now,, iirc well over 300lbs, too. That's why he dresses the way he does. I've seen many big and tall men wear similar outfits in all weather. Comfort over style I suppose.
Jmo, but men should wear a suit and tie to formal occasions like this, but it's really neither here nor there.
