GOP Senator Defends Gaetz During Fiery MSNBC Interview: 'He Was on the House Floor Sharing Photos of Women'

Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) defended Matt Gaetz as Donald Trump’s nominee for attorney general during a fiery segment on MSNBC Thursday. The Tennessee lawmaker joined MSNBC anchor Andrea Mitchell for an interview in which he spoke about Trump’s recent decision to tap the controversial conservative firebrand to lead the Department of Justice.

Before resigning from Congress on Wednesday, Gaetz faced a House Ethics Committee investigation over multiple misconduct allegations related to sex trafficking and drug use.

Hagerty told Mitchell he’s more concern about “the weaponization of the Department of Justice” while claiming “the American public has completely lost faith in the DOJ.”

MITCHELL: But what about his personal record? There are questions about him. He was on the House floor sharing photos of women, talking about bragging about his sexual exploits, about the medication that he used, the drugs that he used. You know, his the ethics investigation has not been released yet. It’s been cut off. It was supposed to be voted on tomorrow, but his resignation has aborted that. What about all of the questions and the the allegations against him? His co-conspirator and his friend is serving an 11 year jail term for the sex trafficking. I mean, there was plenty to investigate there.

5. As always, accusation is confession w/the GOP. Weaponization of DOJ is exactly what they are planning.

But first they want to rile up their base by accusing those awful Dems of doing what they want to do. When they start doing it themselves, it will be "illegal" and "unconstitutional" and "unpatriotic" to point it out.

"HAGERTY: Andrea, you’re talking you said it yourself. These are allegations. It’s amazing that you’re more upset about allegations than you are about the weaponization of the Department of Justice. The American public has completely lost faith in the DOJ. Think about it. The DOJ sending their agents to to spy on the parents who go to, you know, the school board meetings. It’s just amazing. As the American public has seen all of this, they see somebody like Matt Gaetz is willing to stand up and call it wrong. And President Trump’s wanting to put somebody in place that will that will change all of this."
