Republicans win 218 US House seats, giving Donald Trump and the party control of government
Source: Associated Press
WASHINGTON (AP) Republicans have won enough seats to control the U.S. House, completing the partys sweep into power and securing their hold on U.S. government alongside President-elect Donald Trump.
A House Republican victory in Arizona, alongside a win in slow-counting California earlier Wednesday, gave the GOP the 218 House victories that make up the majority. Republicans earlier gained control of the Senate from Democrats.
With hard-fought yet thin majorities, Republican leaders are envisioning a mandate to upend the federal government and swiftly implement Trumps vision for the country.

(11,807 posts)The safeguards that prevented Trump from destroying the government before are now gone. If we are to be saved from this man, it may have to be done by the billionaires who got him elected. If he carries out all of his policies, the economy will suffer, and the last thing billionaires will tolerate is the loss of even a few dollars of their vast wealth.

(672 posts)Top the level of nutso with fear of attack for any disagreement and you have zero chance of sanity. It seems like it can't get much worse, but it will. Oh, it will.
And Dems will prob get even more blame since the media is under their control too. No safe haven for free press. Glitzy misinformation will rule the day

(3,210 posts)Msk found the tech to precisely target races they needed and precincts (or tabulators) they could get without being caught. After witnessing hijacks in the past, and with the wealthiest tech-connected person on Earth ridiculing the very foundations of our democracy, I stand firm on this.
This doesn't mean a huge portion of this country was not duped, is not misogynist and racist, is not selfish, and even suffering. No question. And, so many of our votes were suppressed and swindled by forty years of Roger Stone and Manafort, et al, I know.
Still, I will hold to my belief forever.

Anyone willing to bet that the rule will survive unchanged in the next Congress? Not me!

(4,666 posts)We had a long run, but the country was fatally tainted from the start by rich slave-owners wanting "freedom" from tyranny. That taint led to one civil war, and now it ends the the whole "experiment".
