Donald Trump's most loyal supporters are floating the name of the incoming president's daughter in law to be named the next U.S. senator from Florida.

The news comes as Trump is expected to name U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Flordia as his next secretary of state. Lara Trump, who currently heads the National Republican Committee, could be a possible contender to fill Rubio's seat if he takes the role..

According to an Axios report, "Sen. Katie Britt (R-Ala.) is publicly calling for President-elect Trump's daughter-in-law Lara Trump to be chosen to fill a Florida Senate seat -- a sign of Trump allies potentially rallying around the pick."

10. He has to sit out one whole term before he can run again.

He was elected in 2018 and again in 2022, and thus won't be eligible to run again, as per Florida law, until the election of 2030.

12. He changed the "resign-to-run" law last year. It's why he could run in this cycle. Is there another FL law I missed?

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a sweeping elections bill Wednesday that will make it easier for him to run for president, a move that comes hours after he formally filed to make a bid for the White House.

The most discussed provision in the election package is a change to the state's "resign-to-run" law. It was unclear if the change was needed to allow DeSantis to continue to be governor of the third-largest state in the country while simultaneously running for president, but Republican legislative leaders have long said they would change it to ensure there were no legal concerns.

DeSantis quietly signed the bill Wednesday, with no fanfare, hours before his formal presidential launch, which will come in during an interview with Twitter owner Elon Musk during a 6 p.m. ET Twitter Spaces event on Wednesday.

15. It's the one that only allows him to be elected to governor twice, and then have to sit out 4 yrs before running again.

He can't run for governor of Florida in 2026, because he was elected in 2018, and again in 2022. He can run again for governor in 2030.
Personally, if I was DeSantis, I would appoint myself to fill the remainder of Rubio's term in the Senate if Rubio is officially made Secretary of State by Trump. DeSantdis would have 4 years to go on Rubio's term as Senator, and be up for reelection to the Senate in 2028. He could be reelected as Senator in 2028, and then run for governor in 2030 if he wanted to.

...I meant that DeSantis wants to run for POTUS again, & if he does he'll want the support of the Trump base.

9. The nepotism laws were enacted/changed following RFK's AG appointment. But a US Senate seat from Florida is appointed

by the Florida Governor, not POTUS.

So there are no nepotism issues with DeSantis appointing Trump to a vacant Senate seat.

Rubio can be dumped as SOS at any time after he gets the job, and the seat he held in the Senate will be in Trump family hands for as long as they can hold it. That could be for decades.
Note: DeSantis could always appoint himself to the Senate. Also, Secretary of State is 4th in the line of succession for the Presidency behind the VP, Speaker of the House, and President pro-temp of the Senate.
