Tom Cotton to Chair Senate Intelligence Committee Under Trump: Report

Source: Newsweek

Tom Cotton is set to be chair for the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee during President-elect Donald Trump's second term in the White House, according Punchbowl News reporter Jake Sherman.

This appointment would position the 47-year-old Senator from Arkansas in a leading role, overseeing national intelligence matters in the Senate. Sherman in a post on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday called it "one of the most critical national security positions on Capitol Hill."

Cotton, a former Army infantry officer and veteran of Iraq and Afghanistan, was an early Trump supporter and advised him during his first presidency.

Last week, Axios reported that Cotton told Trump's transition team that he would not accept roles in the new administration and would stay in the Senate. He had previously been a top contender for positions including CIA director and Secretary of Defense.

No need for a middle man.

Putin isn't going go keep paying Trump forever for classified secrets.

Poor Jared Kushner, there goes his next $2B payday.

Besides which, any intel that Trump has will be immediately sent to Putin - and Trump has immunity from prosecution.

It doesn't really match our current reality.

There are double agents in all governments.
This has always been the case going way back in history.

And yes of course it is a dangerous game.

Putin most likely has quite a few ways of receiving US classified intelligence.
Yes Trump is one of them. But there are others ways too.

Anyone with the CIA would be in deep $h!+ for sending classified material to Russia. Even if they are not prosecuted, they would be walking dead in the agency.

Trump can do it with impunity.

Robert Hanssen an FBI agent committed one of the largest breeches of national security in US history by selling a great deal of info to Russia. There are other cases. Certainly we have double agents in the Kremlin as well

Putin is at war with the US, When the USSR broke up, Putin was a young KGB agent,
and vowed revenge. He worked for decades on this goal and has been quite successful
with the help of the GOP who has aligned with the world's autocrats and fascists.

Of course the US is at war with Putin in Ukraine, via the funding and proxy efforts.
Putin will do any thing to defeat the US. His economy is crumbling due to sanctions
and drone attacks on his oil refineries.

Also Putin dreams of being the next world superpower with his friend Xi in China.

The point is that Trump is not his only asset in the US. Not by a long shot.

with a pressure campaign. The only one who somewhat held him back was Turtle but Turtle is getting out of that "Dodge" and will probably not run again when he is up in 2026.
