Conservative group's 'watch list' targets federal employees for firing

Source: Washington Post

November 2, 2024 at 5:27 p.m. EDT

An organization funded by the conservative Heritage Foundation has compiled an online “watch list” of federal employees it claims cannot be trusted to secure the U.S. border and should be fired, a sign that supporters of Donald Trump’s immigration policies are preparing to help him neutralize the administrative state they believe tried to thwart his first presidency.

The “DHS Bureaucrat Watch List” — a website unveiled in the final weeks of a presidential campaign in which immigration is a key issue — names 51 federal policy experts and high-ranking leaders, the majority of whom are career civil servants at the Department of Homeland Security and other agencies. The group identified them largely using public social media comments, prior work experience and campaign finance records.

Among the employees’ actions cited by the group are posts celebrating the legalization of same-sex marriage or lauding the contributions and successes of undocumented immigrants, as well as donations as little as $10 to Democratic candidates. One employee union likened the effort to unearth the private views of public employees to Sen. Joseph McCarthy’s 1950s-era campaign to purge federal workers he accused of being communists.

The site’s founder, a former Republican congressional staffer named Tom Jones, told The Washington Post that he and his staff are seeking to add more names to the list and have sent emails to more than 500 federal employees asking for their help identifying colleagues who they believe are not committed to keeping undocumented immigrants out of the country.

...a group that is compiling lists of federal employees they want removed from their jobs based on partisanship.

There is nothing conservative about such an act.

This is an extreme act, this group should more correctly be referred to as a "rightwing radical group".

This is thinly veiled double-speak for "not sufficiently loyal to Mr. Trump."
The malign influence of these treacherous organizations has to be neutralized. We Democrats have been woefully ineffective at countering the "flood the zone" strategy of lying swine like Bannon, et al. The Harris campaign has been really good at answering the malice that is the hallmark of conservatism, but reacting is never as good as being out there first, with truth and the receipts to back it up.
Flood their zone, and watch them flounder.

funding sources should be investigated. It would be appropriate for The People to know how much 'overseas' funding they receive and how much that funding influences what they do and say. Conservatism is a zero sum ideology and the catalyst for the extremists on the right. Conservatism provides the justification for bigotry, racism, antisemitism, misogyny and every other detestable belief on the right. Conservative institutions, churches, think tanks and every other conservative organization is little more than a propaganda pushers. It's the drug that gets them off. I do not include those who are compassionate, empathetic and sincere and see no reason to shove their beliefs down people's throats.

My first thought is, get a list of members of this right wing group and see how they like being targets of ill will.

The right wing megalomaniacs are hellbent on destroying the U.S. The sick minds working on razing the U.S. don't have the vision to see that if they achieve their goal, they will no longer have the protection of a benign government that allows them to further their increasingly radical plans. They are sick, they lack humanity, in the end they lack ability. They are the toddler who watches their parent build a tower of blocks and then knocks it down and laughs. The parent is trying to teach motor skills in an amusing way, but the baby just likes the excitement of smashing the tower and doesn't bother to build their own.
