Conservatives in furor over Julia Roberts ad

A new Harris-Walz campaign ad voiced by actor Julia Roberts encourages women to vote for Vice President Harris in the presidential election, even if their husbands are backing former President Trump. The Roberts ad, put out by Vote Common Good, also alludes to abortion rights, which is seen as a pivotal issue in a race that has seen Trump with big polling leads among male voters and Harris with a large lead among female voters.
In the one place in America where women still have a right to choose, you can vote any way you want. And no one will ever know, Roberts says in the ad as a woman on screen meets up with her husband after casting her ballot for Harris. The voter winks at a fellow female voter as her husband asks if she made the right choice.
Republicans have responded to the video with outrage, with some claiming that a wife lying about her vote is as bad as an affair. If I found out Emma was going to the voting booth and pulling the lever for Harris, thats the same thing as having an affair, Fox News host Jesse Watters said on air Wednesday in a clip highlighted by Mediaite.
Other GOP members including Charlie Kirk said the thought was nauseating. In criticizing the ad, he discussed a husband working hard to afford his wifes lifestyle, and then said a wife who lied to her husband about whom she backed would amount to undermining her husband.

(4,325 posts)the straw that broke the camel's back was when I bought a $10 dress from WalMart, and he threw a hissy fit. Such a lavish lifestyle I lived... NOT! It wasn't long after that when I screwed up my courage and willpower, put on a black T-shirt with two heads in profile (one man, one female) and the caption: Behind every great woman stands a man who tried to stop her," and told my husband I had filed for divorce.
I had a four-year-old, no job, and was in college. To say I was terrified is an understatement. But I knew I couldn't live any longer with someone who tried to control every aspect of my life... he even tried to stop me from going to college! I knew that whatever waited for me after the divorce would be of my own making, and I knew I could do better than what I was living at time time!

I hope you are in a position to help others that need to see what you saw - and know that they, too, can do what is BEST FOR THEM!
(I'm also thinking that many will get such inspiration from President Kamala! )

I remember like 30+ yrs back at one of our in general wonderful extended family Holiday get together our host cousin's second husband's mother saying something about women either shouldn't go, or not needing to go bc they're women.
Well...my dad hit the ceiling. How proud he was that both his 2 daughters went to college!

WTAF??? "the same as cheating"????? Nice tell, you two. You are openly stating that a woman having a mind of her own is a threat to you insecure, terrified, jackwads. Thank you for stating it out loud.

And second -- Really, guys, you think your wife OWES you her vote/obedience/supplication(/sex) if you "work hard to afford her lifestyle"? That's not in the Constitution.
