An 11-year-old girl played dead before escaping after 5 family members were killed at their Washington state home

Source: CNN via AOL News

An 11-year-old in Washington state fled home in the early morning hours to escape a shooting that left her bloodied and wounded, and killed her entire family.

For days this week, authorities have been investigating the gruesome, fatal shootings of five people in Fall City, Washington. Now, the girl’s account, detailed in court documents, is giving a first glimpse into what unfolded.

The 11-year-old recalled waking up Monday to the sound of gunshots. When she looked outside her bedroom door, she saw her father, Mark Humiston, with blood on his head and her 9-year-old brother with blood in his mouth – both laying on the floor of the hallway, according to court documents.

When her 7-year-old sister walked out of their shared bedroom, the 11-year-old said she heard another gunshot, before seeing her younger sister fall to the floor, the documents say.

1. Yes, it's the guns, and a troubled young man who looked for a way out of trouble.

Now he's in way too deep and most of his family is dead.

How awful.

Now the girl has a trauma to shape the rest of her life. She'll likely be messed up for life now.

I just dont see why gun owners can't use smart technology on the guns to at least protect against someone else using it.

had a gun with smart technology and when the commies came in and took over his town, he couldn't get the gun to work to shoot the commie bastards.

That's why smart gun technology ain't no good. when the commies come, we gotta be instant ready.

it look like the 13 yr old had done the shooting by placing the gun in his hand, Something really wrong here. The 11 yr old sister ran to the neighbors house. They were home schooled.

4. You noticed that too.... (home-schooled). Yes, it is absolutely the guns, but this strikes me as a very insulated

6. I don't think it sounds like a very insulated family

article says:

"Mark and Sarah Humiston were home schooling their children, and were very active in the community"

Also, FWIW, his employer said "“Mark’s leadership and vision were integral within our firm" -- leadership implies someone who actively engages with people, as opposed to the kind of worker who keeps to himself.

7. I'm talking about the kids. YOU are talking about the father/parents. There is nothing in the article

that suggests the kids were "very active in the community" and that suggests they may have been quite insulated... i.e., an insular family setting which CAN breed resentment.

Not all who home-school are such and plenty work hard to make sure their kids are well-balanced in both their education and exposures to community/friends. So, if I touched a nerve, please take that clarification. Still, a lot who homeschool SHOULD NOT BE.

True, there is no indication as to whether the parents included the kids in their community activities.

8. I strongly support common sense gun laws.

But, I honestly don't know if any gun laws could have helped this family. That 15 year old kid was coldly intent on murdering his entire family, and had enacted a plan to get away with it. If the gun was not available, I suspect he would have found another way.
Gun laws will only REDUCE murders, not make them non-existent.

To murder their entire family because they got bad grades, guns or no guns.

Some people are just not sane.

13. He got bad grades from his own parents?

His parents were also his teachers? He wasn't happy so he killed them? There has to be more to this story. The 11 year old survivor will probably have a book written about her, maybe a movie too. Very sad, but also puzzling.

He was home schooled and his parents gave him the bad grades. Well, it could have been one of those standardized test that they have available on the internet for homeschoolers. So, that homeschoolers' abilities can be measured. But, still, his parents would have had to give it to him.

So is it nurture or nature that created this deadly child?

There was a teenage girl about a decade ago who just started murdering people. Up to the point she did her first murder she was almost a perfect child. A Straight "A" student, quiet and obedient.

She didn't kill her parents. Her victims were random people she met or saw through out her day. When asked why she murdered these strangers and acquaintance, she just said it was something that had to be done.

Per the article, he tried to frame his 13 year old brother (who was among the killed) as the killer, and claimed 13 year old killed everybody (and then himself) because he got in trouble for looking at porn. I would guess he tried to blame the 13 year old for his own misdeeds.
