(2,780 posts)With his two big ego-productions: "Braveheart" and "The Patriot". Utterly cringe-worthy writing, where not just the historical details, but the historical big pictures were tossed out the window to make Gibson look like a comic book hero.

(7,395 posts)It seems fitting that one draft dodger would back another.
And then he makes a movie about Vietnam ("We Were Soldiers" ). LOL
Although, the NYT and its sister pub TBT don't want to label him as such (surprise, surprise).
https://www.tampabay.com/archive/2002/04/05/actor-mel-gibson-is-not-draft-dodger/
As explained in Current Biography Yearbook, Gibson, 46, was born in Peekskill, N.Y., the sixth of 11 children. Fearing that his older sons soon would be drafted into the U.S. Army and sent to fight in Vietnam, his father, Hutton Gibson, a brakeman for the New York Central Railroad, decided to immigrate with his wife and children to Australia, the homeland of his mother, Eva Mylott, an opera singer. Mel was 12 at the time.

(7,176 posts)Ill never watch any of his work again. Knuckle-dragger. Supporting a**holes like Gibson is why royalties and entitlements for above-the-line employees is a bad idea in 2024. Its just (bad) business.

Once again we see the deluded confusion of the Christian right heretics.
Hey Mel, maybe you and trump and Franklin Graham could go back and watch the movie you made a bundle off of and sit completely confused about the main character.

(233 posts)And this is exactly why I have avoided supporting any project that Mel Gibson is involved in. Ever since the famous traffic stop I have been convinced he is a bigot and a chauvinist. I hope his choice of Trump encourages thousands to support VP Harris in the coming election. America must support tolerance and intelligence in its search for our nation's leadership.

(2,884 posts)I can appreciate the art of reprehensible artists. I can separate the two. I actually put that to the test with Hitler's paintings once. Made myself reaĺly evaluate them in a vacuum. My conclusion was that it wasn't any good. It was stuff I, someone who isn't a painter at all, couldn't do. But I personally know painters who are way better than he was. Some are high school students.

(1,742 posts)GOP is gonna GOP. Most of them will.
The likes of Lynn Cheney and Adam Kinzinger are supporting Harris, despite ideological differences. But the majority of Republicans are supporting Trump because they always vote for their party. It is what it is.
Those of us who actually still want a free country after 1/20/25 will vote Kamala Harris. If we all vote that way we'll be in the majority and she'll be the one sworn in on that day, not the orange cretin.
