'We refuse to go backwards': Hundreds of S.F. luxury hotel's workers join strike

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

About 310 workers at the Palace Hotel in downtown San Francisco walked off the job Sunday morning, joining hundreds of other hotel workers who went on strike last month for better wages and benefits.

More than 2,000 San Francisco hotel employees were on strike as of Sunday, including workers from the Grand Hyatt San Francisco Union Square, Hilton San Francisco Union Square, San Francisco Marriott Union Square and Westin St. Francis, according to the union representing hotel workers.

The workers are striking for higher wages as the cost of living in the Bay Area continues to soar. They also say they’re fighting for fair workloads. The workers include housekeepers, bellhops, cooks, dishwashers, servers, bartenders and other employees.
