Harris questions Trump's fitness for president over "exhaustion" and event cancellations

Source: Axios

Vice President Kamala Harris on Friday — again — questioned former President Trump's fitness to serve in the White House after his spate of campaign trail cancellations.

Why it matters: Harris has devoted more of her once "joyful warrior" campaign to attacking her opponent, whose rhetoric has become more extreme in the coin-toss election's final days.

  • Trump, 78, would top President Biden's record as oldest president inaugurated by months if he's elected.

  • What she's saying: "I've been hearing reports that his team, at least, is saying he's suffering from exhaustion," Harris said on Friday while campaigning in Michigan.

  • "Being president of the United States is probably one of the hardest jobs in the world," she added. "And so we really do need to ask if he's exhausted being on the campaign trail, is he fit to do the job?"

  • State of play: Trump has canceled a series of interviews and public appearances in recent weeks, Axios' Ivana Saric previously reported. The media appearances he's kept have often been with conservative outlets.

  • Trump's planned appearance at a National Rifle Association event next week was canceled. He pulled out of two mainstream media interviews this week.
  • This week, Trump cut short a Pennsylvania town hall and stood on the stage to music for more than half an hour.

  • In an interview with Bloomberg News, he downplayed the Capitol riot and struggled to outline the costs of his economic plans. He's said he was "hoodwinked" into the interview.
