The initial request for proposals last week required founding documents, like the Pledge of Allegiance and the Bill of Rights, to be included in the Bible. The OSDE is still requiring those founding documents, but they said they can now be bound separately from the Bible.
The changes came after the agency tasked with managing state contracts sent back some recommended changes. Those updated requirements were posted on the OSDE website. The changes say that copies of the founding documents can be bound with the Bible or separately, but they must be bound in durable material.
Last week, critics argued that the state was targeting the "God Bless the USA Bible" endorsed by former President Donald Trump.
