Christopher Ciccone, Artist and Brother of Madonna, Dies at 63

Source: Variety

Christopher Ciccone, an artist, interior designer and younger brother of Madonna, has died, his rep Brad Taylor confirmed to Variety. He was 63.

Ciccone died Friday after a battle with cancer, according to a statement from his family.

Ciccone, who got his start as a choreographer and dancer, was a frequent collaborator of Madonna’s during her rise in pop stardom in the 1980s. He appeared in several music videos, including the one for his sister’s 1984 hit single “Lucky Star,” and served as art director on her 1990 Blond Ambition World Tour. He was also the tour director for Madonna’s The Girlie Show tour in 1993.

Madonna played to her largest audience ever with a free concert at Copacabana beach Saturday night in Rio de Janeiro that drew 1.6 million people.

There are like 80 entire countries with less people than that.

I tell people it's harder in a lot of ways than losing our mom. It's been almost 4 months and I still cry every day.

My condolences and sympathy to Madonna as she navigates life without her brother.

I have been teary since posting here and reading about your brother. Mine was 2 years younger than me and died a long, slow death from AIDS. He came to live with me and I made my home at the hospital until I had to make "the decision". I will send some good thoughts your way. Warm hugs, warm thoughts.

My brother died 22 years ago. I can never be over the pain he suffered. I was with him every day of it. Brothers are special. Hold tight to your memories. They may hurt but they can also comfort. Much love to you.

He was the oldest of my siblings. He made some choices in life that made life tougher but he always accepted responsibility and never complained. The last couple years of his life he really made some positive strides. The last time I saw him, just a few days before he entered the hospital, he was so happy. I have one memory in particular that I will treasure forever. I will miss his wit and laughter the most.
