Cybersecurity head says no chance foreign country could change US election results in November

Source: The Independent

The US election systems are so secure that Russia, Iran or any other foreign adversary would not be able to alter the outcome of the presidential election, director of the nation’s cybersecurity agency said Wednesday.

“Malicious actors, even if they tried, could not have an impact at scale such that there would be a material effect on the outcome of the election,” Jen Easterly, director of Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, told the Associated Press.

Federal agencies such as The Office of the Director of National Intelligence have warned that foreign actors like Iran, China and Russia have attempted to interfere in U.S. elections through digital fake news websites intended to influence voters and drive a political rift. But Easterly said voting, ballot counting and other election infrastructure are more secure than ever.

Last month, the Biden administration seized more than two dozen Kremlin-run fake news websites. Two Russian state media employees have been charged in a scheme to covertly fund right-wing influencers as well.

In the OP excerpt -

But Easterly said voting, ballot counting and other election infrastructure are more secure than ever.

Not ignoring. Each of these Agencies/Offices has a specific mission, mandate, and focus and CISA is looking at actual infrastructure hacking (whether consumer, business, particularly utilities, or even election systems, etc).

..."digital fake news websites."

Yes I understand that's not his agency's or his focus, I probably should have said "WE shouldn't ignore propaganda."

Sorry, I just got back from Europe, I'm out of my time zone, just woke up & posted that before I had coffee. Guess I shouldn't do that because I'm not awake & coherent enough to choose the right words. I now have coffee & I think it's morning but was surprised to learn it's Thursday, which means I neglected to put out my trash & recycling last night. Oh well... there's always next week.

In that case it's probably because of this pesky thing -

First Amendment

Amendment I

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

I know the feeling of timezone hopping but you don't even need that. As a morning person and having stayed up late for the debate and the aftermath reporting last night, I am simply running ON VAPORS!!!!
