President Biden on Wednesday criticized climate change deniers and warned that storms will get worse, after he surveyed damage caused by Hurricane Helene. Biden took an aerial tour of Asheville, N.C., and then traveled to Raleigh for a briefing on hurricane relief efforts alongside Gov. Roy Cooper (D), during which he bashed those skeptical of the impacts of climate change.
No one can deny the impact of climate crisis anymore. At least I hope they dont, they must be brain dead if they do, Biden said. Scientists report that with warming oceans powering more intense rains, storms like Helene are getting stronger and stronger. Theyre not going to get less, theyre going to get stronger.
The president said he approved Coopers request for the federal government to cover all the costs for six months for debris removal and emergency protective measures. And, he noted that the federal government is set to send 1,000 troops to aid Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.
Biden also spread a message of unity, calling for the hurricane to not be politicized. He said he worked with both Cooper, noting he is a Democrat, and South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, noting he is a Republican.

(42,908 posts)A Vote for Trump Is a Vote for Hell on Earth
.. After all, right now, in Sept. 2024, were living on a planet that has never, not at any time in human history, been hotter. Our world has, in fact, been setting remarkable heat records, one after another, month after monthAugust was the 15th straight month to be the hottest of its kind everyear after year.
In fact, 2023 set a global heat record and 2024 has a 95% probability of smashing that record. And the weather of such an overheating planet should already be taking your breath away, even if were still early (more or less) in a process that could indeed create nothing less than a genuine hell on Earth.
..Still, the man who demanded a billion dollars in campaign contributions from a group of leading oil executives and lobbyists at a dinner at Mar-a-Lago last spring, while promising to reverse Biden administration environmental rules and regulations, has, as Kamala Harris reminded us in their debate, repeatedly dismissed the phenomenon as a hoax.
Worse yet, its obvious that, should he enter the White House again, Trump and his compatriots are planning to let the fossil-fuel companies run wild and wreak havoc. He also plans to do his damnedest to limit the production of electric cars...

(25,483 posts)Vulnerable individuals should have that option. Many want to move and cannot. Even less so after repeated disasters.
We should be identifying true livable areas not just high "risk areas" like we do now and facilitating our internal migration systematically. Because at some point within the next three decades, maybe before, many will be forced to migrate regardless. That isn't just exclusive to the USA.
Many countries are already in a climate change migration crisis because of drought, floods, high temperatures. Also, hunger which is a precursor of war. All around the world it's leading to migration. The dominoes are already falling.
We need a new set of solutions that examine the problem from a widely expanded perspective. What we have now is the definition of insanity.
Take a look at this:
