Florida university to host extremist after DeSantis-led lurch to right

New College of Florida (NCF) will host the extremist writer Steve Sailer, who has been described as a white supremacist and a proponent of scientific racism, at a college-branded public event next month.
New College has made headlines since January 2023, when the rightwing governor, Ron DeSantis, vowed to transform it from a university known for liberal values into a conservative institution, and installed a new board of trustees including the rightwing culture warrior Christopher Rufo. That board in turn appointed DeSantiss close ally Richard Corcoran as the new college president, in which role he makes a $699,000 salary.
DeSantiss lieutenants actions at New College like abolishing disciplines, removing bathroom signage and denying professors tenure have seen the departure of more than a third of the faculty, and given rise to myriad legal actions.

In Sailers newly published anthology, Noticing, one essay claims that an African population explosion is related to a primal African cult of fertility. Another associates young woman-of-color journalists with Haitian voodoo and Southern hoodoo magic. Many offer variations on the claim that Blacks have higher average levels of violent crime and lower average levels of intelligence.

which I suppose is why hes specifically dismantled it. It was a school where you could make up your own majorone guy made his about a social experiment where he wore nothing but a tie all year, which was hysterical, if not really applicable to the real worldand we had some others with really clever, groundbreaking ideas for theirs.
Now? Teachers have quit, students held their own final graduation ceremony off campus last spring, the administration has been gutted and replaced with DeathSantis operatives, and students are not sticking around. Why decimating a respected college has become the focus of this little man is a mystery, though I suppose he figures it will stand as a warning to the so-called woke left. This is the same guy having cops knock on the doors of people who signed petitions to get abortion rights on the state ballot, after all, and wants nothing to do with legal cannabis.
The sooner we can get him, Rick Scott, Marco Rubio, and teen rapist Matt Gaetz voted out, the better. If only there was a big enough supply of extra-jumbo roach bait to help us send them scurrying tf elsewhere to hurry the process. *grinding teeth*

(16,284 posts)It was an easy, soft target for his "anti-woke" policies.
He declared his intention to transform New College into the Hillsdale College of the south.
He appointed Chris Rufo to the Board of Directors as a giant "fuck you" to New College supporters, staff, and administration.
He's been behind the move to make college athletics a major attraction of the school.
The school's rankings in college ratings has been dropping like a stone since DeSantis started his attacks.
He's been a vindictive total asshole throughout his terms as governor and has done tremendous damage to the state.

(4,325 posts)For one, any "population explosion" can more readily be blamed on abortion restrictions/bans; expense of the procedure and expense accorded to birth control. Never mind any cultural background of the desire to have the child when pregnant, rather than abort.
He managed to hit all the pagan/occult notes in his "book." African Fertility cult, voodoo and hoodoo. Bah! This guy wouldn't know a Fertility cult if it told him to lay down and tighten up his butt. And his belief in crime and intelligence levels isn't new. Harks back to disgraced, disproven "evidence" from decades ago.
With Repugs, there's nothing new under the sun. They simply regurgitate tired talking points from every decade. Evil, thou hast a face... and it is maga.

By the way, I've been banned (again) for a month for telling them to Fuck Off because they took down one of my viral posts. It had 6500 likes and climbing and the comments were on fire! "I'll be back," says it like Arnie.

Unfortunately, college students with great ideals but mediocre debate tactics show up to these things and, because they lack debate skills, end up looking foolish on right-wing web sites. I want to (figuratively) stomp people like this too, but this has to be done carefully, or not at all.
